Charming course overlooking the lake

I played the front nine twice at twilight during my multi-week stay near crystal Lake. It is a very pleasant setting overlooking the lake and very quiet, meandering through the trees. Some holes are pretty tricky, like the par-5 3rd hole, and others are quite narrow while there are some that are more wide open. I think it's especially good for beginners because the forward tee is only 4,300 yards, which is why we came the second time. The shaping of the land is very cool with rolling humps and bumps. If they could get the turf a little tighter so the ground game can be used a little more, this place would be exceptional. The greens however are quite nice.

I prefer Champion Hill over Pinecroft but like Pinecroft more than Crystal Lake GC.

Good Course And Value

Played this course a few years ago and conditions have improved considerably since then. Greens, tees and fairways all in great shape. Course is very hilly, and I think the uneven lies are its best defense. The lack of yardages on sprinkler heads is a pet peeve of mine since I have yet to invest in a range finder and phone apps are clunky to use, , but not a big deal to me

Fun and Quirky

This course has just the right amount of quirk to make it really enjoyable. It has a great mixture of holes and challenges you with different yardages. It plays pretty firm, so you'll get a bounce or two that goes your way and a few that won't. The greens are very undulating but play the right speed for all the up and down. This course has a great set of par 3s. If you're looking for an affordable course with great architecture and views, stop by Pinecroft!

OK Course

I prefer to play this course's sister course Champion Hill for the same price. The layout is a bit quirky, and mainly the greens are like playing putt putt courses, so hilly and sloped. This course has some decent holes, but just not memorable. Conditioning is fine.
