Too soon to judge!!!
working on making this a top golf course destination .. but still a work in progress.
Don't bother for another few years
Fun course... Disappointing staff!
Myself and 7 others played played here while on a guys golf getaway and had a good enjoyable round.
My brother and I had also purchased a round of golf for this course via a silent auction at a golf expo. My brother has a serious back injury and won't be able to play this season. I called and asked if the certificate could be extended to next year. I received an quick "NO". When I attempted to explain the situation I was accused of lying about the injury with a "do you know how many of these stories I get" I explained he was getting a situation not a story and that I was not pleased that he was implying I wasn't being truthful. His tone and attitude was very poor and unprofessional.. I know next year this course will not be included in our playlist for our annual trip.
Great Course
Arrived and the place was empty being a early morning in October, finished my round as a single in 2 1/2 hours. Weather was perfect, course was in great condition, and only complain (if it is one) was the greens were a bit too hard even with the morning dew. Very hard to hold a green when your sky high pitching wedge goes forward uphill 15 feet and never even leaves a dent on the green with a Pro V1.
Both the man running the clubhouse and the ranger who was issuing carts were extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely play again and again if the price is right like I got on GolfNow ($65).
Nice track
We had a foursome yesterday who had not played the course since it was completely redone. We were excited to see the changes and upgrades.
Overall the course is in great condition. The greens were fast and true. The tee boxes and fairways well kept.
The carts are new and upgraded with excellent GPS screen. It's a good thing because three of us had golf gps watches and none of them were updated to course changes, even though they were different brands and I had updated mine day prior.
The course is still target golf and it penalizes bad shots but the woods have been cleared out a bit.
The single biggest disappointment is the condition of the cart paths. The allegedly spent $250,000 on sand for the bunkers and the paths are rutted, consist mostly of pea gravel and occasional old tar stretches, and are actually quite bumpy. Considering they ask you to ride cart paths and 90 degree to ball, it's just not up to what it should be.
Overall fun but not sure it's a $100 play.
Terrific Course
High end public course however we received a discounted rate to try the layout. We played it under the old layout and found the changes were very well done. The conditions were spectacular and was certainly a must play. It would be worth playing even for the $125+ for the standard green fee.I they have enough golfers willing to pay that fee because they worked hard to make this a memorable experience. Clubhouse is also spectacular.
The new attitude
The course was in beautiful condition and the improments Troon golf has made are spectacular!
The high-tech carts with built in GPS are cool.
Unfortunately, the staff has an issue!
We had an outing of 92 golfers. From the start, a nice “no coolers allowed” would have been an appropriate greeting. But instead we were threatened with expulsion in a nasty manner. Then followed by multiple loud speaker announcements of “you will be removed from the course”. Physically?
Rule for the day was 90 degrees and then return to the cart path. On the first hole, we played we followed the path and dropped into the fairway to hit our second shots only to be blasted at “get the carts on the paths”. Asking the following groups, same obnoxious attitude from the ranger.
The banquet afterwards: food was OK till they ran out! Short by 20 golfers. Poor planning or just being cheap?
Final take away, great course, unfriendly atmosphere.
Getting better and better
We played this course the weekend it opened this past summer and it was even better today. On a cool November day the course was in fantastic condition other than the greens being a little shaggy but with the course closing Sunday for the winter that is to be understood. I look forward to seeing the upgrades to the back nine to complete the course and make it even more fantastic. See you in the spring Cape Club.
Much improved
The previous version of Ballymeade was a design nightmare for most of us hackers. The new Cape Club course looks much better and is far more enjoyable to play. The course is much less penal and has a lot of both interesting and lovely holes. If the wind is up, as it can be on the Cape, then it becomes both lovely and a lot more challenging. They are still working the kinks out here. No carts allowed in fairways, which meant a a lot of back and forth. Some GPS foibles. There are still some hidden perils. For example, on the 9th hole, there is water in front of the green on a par 5, but you can't see it from the fairway until you're relatively close to it--so just take a look ahead as much as you can. They've done a nice job improving this course, with new tees and new greens. It will take another year or two for everything to be fully settled, but it's a big step forward from where the course was. It's not a cheap course to play, but the value will be there in time.
Can't Wait to Return
Played on Friday morning at 9:48. Got set up in pro shop quickly and paid $8 for medium bucket of range balls. Range is nice but unfortunately you hit off matt's.
Clubhouse is amazing. Looks huge and even nicer inside. Have a nice area to sit out and look over Range.
Course is in great shape and it looks like they are letting some areas/tee boxes grow but once cut will be perfect. You can tell this Is a troon course because conditions are great.
Layout is great but make sure you are somewhat accurate with drives/tee shots. From the tips fairways look very narrow and you will be chipping out to play your third shot if you miss fairways.
Can't wait to get back and play this course again. Also, it was a pain that course is cart path only at this time, but completely understandable since everything is so new. Play this course if you can, you wont regret it.
P.S. carts are some of the best I have ever rode in. Very nice
With some wirk it will be very good
Had the chance today to play the new Cape Club, formally Ballymeade in Falmouth. The improvements were seen right out of the gate with a new range directly behind the clubhouse and the first hole being the old range. You can tell that Troon put their money into the front nine first as that side is much nicer than the back. The layout has some improvements, most noticeable, the bunkers which were a beautiful white. The course certainly needs a little work on the backside but it is still 100 times better than it was in the past. A few things for them to take a look at are maybe signs directing you to the bag drop, a starter with a radio so he knows everyone's tee times and maybe some sand boxes at the tees on par 3's to fill in divots. My playing partners and I all said the same thing "in a year this course will be one of the top in the state."
Don't stop improving this course Troon you are certainly going in the right direction.
Good value.
Friendly helpful staff. Range was closed which never happened before. Course is well maintained. Although it is much easier than it was a few years ago, (fairways extended, trees trimmed, and hazards removed or changed), the course is still challenging and fun to play.
There are no rangers to speed play; the course is not cared for properly by players and staff.
The layout of this course, and its challenge is first rate, but the attitude of the staff and golfers is extremely poor. the greens are pock marked by ball marks that are not fixed or improperly fixed, and the speed of play is not good due to the lack of rangers patrolling the course and keeping the play moving. Very disappointing for such a high expectation for this club.
Good course
Decent conditions. Course is harder on back nine. Was wet the day we played but still had a good time.
The course have great views and the course holes are both down and up and even a couple of water holes
Great track, challenging and rewarding, a must play. The Staff was Friendly and the value was great.
