Very good semi private course

I've played this course several times in the past but this most recent time showed the course to be in terrific shape. Although they pin aerated the fairways and tees it was almost unnoticeable, except where they had too much sand on the tees. The course has a nice routing that is challenging with tight fairways and overhanging trees, you need to know what shot to hit to be successful. The greens are typically fast (although not as fast this time) and with plenty of slope to make putting very difficult if you're not familiar with the course. It has an older clubhouse but really good food available and the pretty nice pro shop too. Not too many public play times but worth the effort.

Very nice layout in great shape

Foxborough CC was a very interesting course with some challenging holes. It's not overly long (6600 from the blues), but tight fairways and small greens make it difficult. The greens were in great shape, however the speed took some getting used to. Local knowledge is key on some holes, as placement off the tee is much more important than length.

Challenging But Not Punishing

We played a charity scramble at Foxboro last week. It had been 20 years since I had last played it. I was very impressed with the conditions of the course as a whole. The greens were slow because they had not been mowed due to AM rains. There were a couple of putts that were affected by the lingering winter kill damage. The design is fairly basic, with generously wide fairways and bunkers and obstacles that only provided minimal threat. There are a few hills that make for a true New England feel. The par 5 ninth is a great example of that. The hills affect your second shot and ability to attack the green in 2 shots. The 12th is a great, long downhill par 3, that makes club selection challenging. It was an enjoyable round, with minimal stress. The fact that we were playing a scramble may have played into that opinion. I would bet playing from the tips would up the challenge and stress level greatly. The clubhouse is a bit dated, but the food was very good. There is a better than average range and putting/chipping area. No doubt there is a loyal, active membership at Foxboro, but there are times that the public can play. I would certainly look into either option if I lived in the Foxboro area.

When it's in good shape it's a good course

Foxboro CC is a great layout when you can play it in it's best condition. Sadly, last year they lost two greens and had tempo greens, not the best thing for a course with members. Tee boxes were in great condition but the greens struggle to survive. I believe they removed some trees to assist with air flow to these greens which should help. Ask about the condition before you book a tee time.
