Great layout, greens in very bad shape.
The course layout was a lot of fun, and the hole design was nice overall (although a bit repetitive in places). Really pretty cherry blossoms in places on the course, and the water features were more decorative than hazards. Bunkers were in decent shape but not much sand in some of them. Fairways were OK (dormant grass) and the tee boxes were not very level despite being laser levelled during the recent refurbishment.
This was not an enjoyable round as the greens were borderline unplayable. When checking in I was told the greens had been aerated last week (very annoyed there was no mention of this and also no discount on the round). The aeration holes were a lot larger than I have seen elsewhere - about nickle sized - with tons of sand on the greens. Some greens were like putting through a sandpit, with the balling rolling like it was on a minefield. I usually love putting and chipping and today it was borderline unplayable.
It is very unfair that courses don't share that they have been aerated when you are booking a tee time - as by the time you're arriving there's usually no alternative option to playing. The round was worth about $10-15 in terms of how unplayable the greens made the course. Really disappointed as I had looked forward to trying this course. $40 for beach putting was not worth it and it was hard to enjoy the round.
Welcome Back
I recently played Enterprise, first time since they remodeled. Staff was friendly, course was in great shape, pace of play was excellent...it was a Tuesday keep in mind. Enterprise has a reputation for slow play on the weekends. Overall it was an excellent experience.
Cold day but still many out. The greens were free of leaves and in good condition.
Value
Good value for the money. Open fairways but still challenging
Hard Pressed to Find a Better Public Course
You will be hard pressed to find another public course in the excellent condition that Enterprise is always kept in. Their fairways are green and lush, and the rough is thick and kept about 2.5 inches...not too punishing. There is only one fairway bunker (#2), but almost every hole has some greenside bunkers with nice sand. The greens are beautiful, albeit a tad on the slow side, but very playable. Even though this course is not overly difficult, don't underestimate it--the mounding, trees, and hazards on many of the holes squeeze the landing zones and make them much narrower than you might think. They have a nice new short-game practice area close to the parking lot, and new golf carts this year. Their superintendent (Matthew) does an exceptional job with keeping this course in such wonderful condition. The staff from the Pro Shop to the cart crew and starter to the snack bar and beverage cart are great--they are all very customer focused and care about all guests having a great experience. And, the Enterprise management including their GM (Alan) and Pro (Randall) are very attentive and want to ensure all customers enjoy their visit at Enterprise, whether it's a weekly League, an outing, or tournament. Enterprise is a well-kept secret and is one of the best public courses in the tri-state area.
What a workout!
Mostly par 4 holes. Very hilly. Pretty long distance from tee to hole for most fairways. Walkers will get plenty of exercise! Of course, carts are available for riders. The only down side was the goose poop.
Great course
This is a great local course that is well maintained. Holes are not overly hard, but good for a round with buddies.
Great Muni Course
Very well maintained and great value for a muni course. Easy drive from DC makes this a great option.
Gorgeous course
A good public layout for this area that was in great shape when I played in late May. Beautiful wooded property with a fun mix of holes. I particularly liked 10-11, a dogleg par five that plays from an elevated tee way downhill and then back up to an elevated green, and a blind, risk-reward par four where an aggressive tee shot must carry trees on the left.
I’ll definitely return (great, well-priced course just a half hour outside of DC is tough to find) but there are a few areas that Enterprise needs to address to become my regular haunt. I saw zero marshals on the course, even though I played on a Sunday afternoon. I didn't expect to set any pace records, but play was unbelievably slow even though the course didn't seem all that crowded. I played as a single and was surprised at the lack of a “pace of play” culture among other golfers here—most of the munis I frequent have been preaching mindful golf practices, especially on tees and greens, for years. Hopefully this round was an exception, and I’ll give Enterprise a chance to redeem itself.
Also would be great if they allowed walkers before 1:00 pm on weekends. The future of golf is not driving carts and drinking beers. #EnjoyTheWalk
Still love Enterprise but I have to re-iterate my concerns about pace of play. I played yesterday behind a very slow outing of sorts, and only saw a marshal once. I think the course could do a bit more to instill an ethos of good pace.
Great Golf Value
Great golf course for the $. Greens we surprisingly fast and fairways were lush and well maintained. I would recommend this golf course for anyone in the DC/MD/VA area.
The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Bro when booking a tee time online there is a big banner that says “greens were aerated on 3/18 and 3/19”
