My favorite local track!

I love this course. This is my favorite local public course. The conditions are always good. Ground crew keeps this place in great shape.
They always have a beer/snack cart going around the course. You see it way more often then most courses.

Poor layout branded as "course management"

Friendly people in the clubhouse and restaurant. Pace of play was good. Overall, visually a pretty place to play.

Multiple hazards in play on almost every hole, many of which line both sides of the fairway (long, overgrown fescue that gobble up balls). Just unnecessary hazards, forced carries, and blind shots that take make golf less fun. I'm a 10 handicap and lost the same number of golf balls. Doglegs on almost every single par 4 and 5, again taking away the fun part of golf to let driver rip every now and then.

If you like to place iron shots up and down the course, you'll probably love it.

Poor layout from any tee

Course is in ok condition, many other courses in better shape for less money. Layout is tricky as
almost every hole is a dogleg and the landing areas are mostly in the narrow corners. They moved all the tees far forward and now the scorecard and tee/hole markers don't match the color tee...could be 20-100 yards difference. Around the greens and the greens themselves are very fun, rewarding and punishing.

Too early for peak season prices

Spring Meadows is one of my favorite courses in the area but $35 for 18 walking is way to steep for their 1st week open. Naturally, it was cart path only but it was soaking wet and the greens are not in the best shape right now. One of the greens was completely destroyed. There should be a lower rate at this point in the early season. Peak season this course is a beauty and well worth that price.

Fantastic Golf near the Lake!

Spring Meadows best feature seems to be its accessibility, both from the highway and to little Sebago lake. Getting to and from a golf course is something that isn't appreciated enough these days.

Anyways, back to the golf. The grass driving range is really fun as it sits atop a bit of a cliff so balls seem to travel for days. But that's also a disadvantage if youre looking to calibrate distances before your round. The course is a lot of fun with plenty of twists and turns, ups and downs. My favorite hole was the 10th, a downhill dogleg right where you can hit your tee shot (if youre feeling lucky) over the trees and cut off a good 50 yards. My approach was only 200 yards in and made an eagle.

Pace of play wasn't the greatest but it seemed to be only one group that held up everyone so I cant blame the course. Otherwise it was a fantastic day of golf!

Great layout

i hadn't been back here in 5 years. The wife and I came here the day before our 20th anniversary. She had never played it before and absolutely loved it. Myself haven been several times before didn't think much about it. But it hit me that we played Sunday River, Mount Washington, North Conway CC and dune grass, and others on our 10 day tour, and spring meadows was her favorite. Her reasons were great conditions, nice staff, and generous woman's tee boxes. Kudos spring meadows. Had I known I would of just grabbed a hotel in gray. Great course.

Great course, truly a gem more people need to know about

I played this course for the first time in 2015, now I am a member who lives 30 minutes away. Gray, ME is not a hotbed of activity, but the 15-30 minute drive from Portland or other surrounding towns is well worth it. For starters, the staff is great. Very friendly and engaging, down to Earth people. Secondly, the course conditions are GREAT! I was amazed when I hit balls off of the fairways (best fairways in the state, IMHO), and the greens are usually in great shape and run "true". A lot of the course is low-lying, so if there has been rain, the fairways can be damp. Well-placed bunkers and water hazards will greet you during your round, and the 3 par 5s on the course will test your shot-placing ability - not simply bomb it off of the tee.

This course is really fun to play, and you can score well if your ball-striking is on. However, you can also find yourself in trouble if you are not hitting in particularly well that day. Fair pricing, as well.

Has driving range.

A Long Standing Favorite

Spring Meadows has been a favorite of mine since I first discovered it in 2001. I try to play it 3 or 4 times per year when I can get up that way. It is a layout that can challenge good players from the 2 back sets of tees and it can play nicely for less accomplished players from the forwards tees. There are many amazing elevation changes, and hazards and treelines that are strategically placed to make you think before you fire away. The first hole would be your first introduction to that. As you stand on the hilltop tee, you look down at a large pond on the right side of the fairway that pushes your target line to the left. If you are safely in the fairway, you will be mindful of another pond to the left and behind the green that will affect your approach strategy. The 7th hole is another downhill par 4. You could take out the driver and attempt to drive the green, but there is a pond protecting the green 260 yards out that may cause you to play safe and lay up. The 15th is a serpentine par 5 that requires you to hug the left side off the tee. You then must decide if you are going to lay up with your second or go bombs away in attempt to get close to the green. The meandering hazard and intrusive treeline can wreak havoc with your plans. Spring Meadows is always in great condition, It was hit very hard but this past winter of winter kill in New England. The greens have been slow to get back to form, but I think they will. The staff from GM Dave Pollard on down are all very friendly and down to earth people. This is a great course for players of any level. The fun of playing it and being faced with a variety of golf shots never gets old for me. Now Gray, Maine is not a hot spot of major activity, but it is just a short drive from the Portland, Sebago Lakes or Mid Coast areas. Once there, I believe you will be glad that you made the trip.

Best Value in Maine

We played in the afternoon after it had been a gray and damp morning. The course was not very busy and the conditions were wonderful. I always look forward to going to Spring Meadows as it provides a very challenging, well-maintained round of golf. I prefer the course over some other area courses where the price tag is higher but the services and conditions are similar to Spring Meadows. I would seriously recommend selecting the tees that best suit your playing level. We made the proper decision but be fair warned that the course is extremely difficult from the tips.
