Opened to critical acclaim in 1992, Oak Harbor is a links style course located on Lake Pontchartrain that has done nothing but improve ever since. Golf Digest gave it a nomination for "America's Best New Course of 1992" and with good reason. The Lee Schmitt design is Pete Dye inspired. Schmitt makes good use of railroad ties and bulkheads around the many bayou waterways that intersect the layout. The course is a worthy adversary to even scratch golfers from the "tips," but play a manageable yardage from the regular men's tees. Sound strategy is always a premium on this championship layout. Danger lurks in the form of water that comes into play on 12 of the holes. Mounds, sand traps and wind add additional challenges.
