Another look at The Farm
I reviewed this course last year and was disappointed primarily about the conditions of the greens. I understand they have a new greenskeeper and I was interested to see if there had been any changes. I am happy to report that the greens were far superior to last year. They were much firmer and healthier than previously. Work also has been done to remove trees and improve turf quality. The course has always had an interesting layout and the changes thus far are all good. I look forward to playing it again in the future and hope they continue to make improvements over the next few years.
Shame
This used to be the go to public course in the Lafayette area. It was a little pricy, but what’s you got in return was a well maintained course, amazing fairways, and smooth greens. I don’t know what happened in the 2 years since I moved to Texas but honestly I would have rather played at Muni. Grass on tee boxes was almost as tall as the tee. It looked as if I was hitting driver off the ground. Fairways were littered with grass clippings, not fresh ones either. Staff in the pro shop was iffy as well. Foul mouth kids that rather crack jokes than help customers. Let’s not even discuss the pot holes on the greens. I wish the Wetlands wasn’t packed that day because I definitely would have played there. I guess that’s where everyone goes now. I really hope they get it together at the Farm. Until then I won’t even waste my time there. I’m giving 1 star because no stars wasn’t an option. What a shame.
Membership dues not refunded
I was a member for 2 years and for the most part, the experience was a positive one. I decided to end my membership and contacted the mgr/owner b/c the billing did not stop. I called several times to attempt to get my $$ back, was told that it would be refunded. I have still not received a refund. Not a good way to do business.
Could be great with a little work
Played at the Farm d’Allie golf course today. The layout has always been interesting. Lots of good holes and the finishing holes are as good as we have in this neck of Louisiana. What gets me about this course is the conditioning. The greens have never been what they should be. They always are slow and spongy and lots of bare patches. A good superintendent would be top dressing and rolling the greens regularly to firm them up. . They seem to have a lot of thatch. The green on 15 has never been good because there are tall trees putting it in deep shade all afternoon. The trees need to be cut back to the property line so that green can thrive. I noticed a fair bit of tree trimming elsewhere on the course that was needed and the course is better for the effort.
Better course conditioning would really elevate this course. Efforts are being made in some quarters. It would be really fun to play this course with fast, firm pure greens. Hope they can get there. Still worth a play as it is but with a little more work it could be great.
The Farm, keep it a secret !
I play on courses all over Louisiana and this one is always in the best condition each time. Not crowded and staff is always helpful.
A little pricey for weekday play, but to have a relaxing round on a course in great shape is ok by me. I live 2 hours from here, it’s worth the drive.
Keep it a secret!
Great Course BUT......
The people working there have no clue how to run a golf course. Everything is a great inconvenience to staff. ITs a great course but too many non golfers play there and take their sweet time doing everything. A round will take around 5 hours.
