Course in good shape
First warm day of the year.
Course was pretty busy but finished round in a little under 4 hours
Greens in good shape
Slow play, deep rough
Lots of people playing today but unfortunately there was no starter to group anybody up leading to very slow play. The bent fairways were a little long but the rough was impossible to find your ball even if just off the fairways or around the greens which again led to slow play. The greens were super fast and with Dye's undulations made 3 putting and sketch chips common occurrences . This course plays long and hard, add in some wind and scores will skyrocket on this very good track in Lexington Bluegrass country.
Value City
For my first time at Kearney Hill, there was definitely a feeling of rich golf history being on the grounds. The atmosphere was great and I'll just jump into the good:
The course was in really great shape. Fairways and rough were kept up and totally fair. The greens were rolled nicely and had a decent amount of speed to them. I really enjoyed the layout of each 9. It was a nice mix of both long challenging holes and shorter, yet equally challenging ones. It will not dominate you in length and gives you needed breathers to keep morale high.
The bad... well it took 5 hours to play a round of golf at 9am on a Monday... Pace of play is a big stickler of mine and that made enjoying the course to its fullest really tough. Speaking to a few other groups who gave me the impression that they were regulars, said that was common for a Monday morning.
The layout near the clubhouse was a bit confusing. Maybe it was just me, but finding the first hole took a minute.
Also, you'll hear other people comment on it. The course is right off the highway, and that buzz of traffic is always off in the distance. Is that such a big deal? I don't know, I didn't really think so, but something to mention.
Overall I think it's a really nice value to play a course like this for the price that they are asking. Which may be why they stay busy out there. Go play it, you won't be disappointed.
Top notch greens !!!!!
The greens at Kearney Hills are the best you’ll encounter at this cost for 18 holes. Undulating, firm, true very big. Pins can be tucked away in so many different spots to challenge members daily. This course is always very well kept. It gives ya all ya want from any tee box, but especially the tips. Love it !!!!!!
Pace of play
There was a thunderstorm delay along with rain so my wife and I waited it out, we were the only ones out there after it stopped raining so there was no pace play issue it was cart path only(understandable) we really enjoyed the layout if we are ever out this way again this is definitely on our list
Great course
Great course, layout, conditions. The only negative part which we knew going in, it was cart path only. So there was a lot of walking
Perfect Round
The course was in great shape, and the course layout is a fair test, with tees to accommodate any skill level. The greens rolled very well. The staff was welcoming and very friendly, something lacking at many golf courses these days. Some courses treat the players as if they are paying you, and not the other way around. We had an awesome experience on a great course!
Slow slow slow
Why would a course accept booking tee times when the course is hosting a ladies tournament? At times we had 3 groups on a tee. Nearly 3 hours on the front 9. Just tell me you’re having a tournament and I’ll come out some other day. Not the staff’s fault, as they were understanding and gave us a rain check for the back.
Ranger's needed
5 some and beginner 4 some would not let a fast two-some play through.
Not what it used to be
Course has gone downhill over the last few years. Rough was way to long, spent way to much time looking for my golf balls instead of enjoying the game.
