Must Play!
I last reviewed The Meadows in 2019. While I rated it strongly then, I wanted to come back and re-rate it because they've completed a bunker renovation project that has improved the visuals of the course, as well as the strategy.
The Meadows continues to be one of my favorite public courses in Iowa. The conditions are always good, the greens roll true, and with the more rugged bunkers, the overall look, set against the Iowa countryside, is terrific. It also presents a good challenge without being overly penal.
Definitely a must-play if you're in Northeast Iowa!
One of Eastern Iowa's Best
This was my 3rd trip to The Meadows Golf Club near Dubuque, IA. Every time I play it, I'm always amazed that it isn't ranked higher on Iowa's "Best Of" lists. The course is on a great piece of property and makes great use of the natural contours of the land. This leads to some challenging greens and lots of uneven lies. I've always found The Meadows to be very fair and fun, yet it still presents a strong challenge.
The Good:
The Meadows is always in excellent condition, and the greens are some of the truest rolling I've played, especially for a public course. In addition to the excellent greens, I love the layout of The Meadows. With frequent direction changes, and lots of slope, it makes you think and presents an excellent challenge.
The Average:
The course is always soft. I think it would play better if it were a little firmer and faster. I'd like to see them let it get a little brown around the edges to get a little bit more bounce and fire into the course. Additionally, the 4th and 14th are two very similar par 3s, and neither is particularly memorable.
The Not So Good:
I managed to avoid all of the bunkers, I think that was a blessing. The greenside bunkers were not well maintained. They appeared to be a bit waterlogged.
Favorite Hole:
The Par 4 13th is may favorite hole. It's a 388 yard par 4 that works it's way left to right along a slope while also moving up a fairly steep hill. It's just a very interesting hole and really fun to play.
Great course well maintained
This course Is very well maintained and offers many different challenges. Great course no matter your skill level!
