Strong Value

I've reviewed this course once before but wanted to add a new review based on finally getting to play Meadowview in summer conditions.

While Meadowview won't wow you with its course conditions, it does boast some really nice bent grass greens that roll fast and true. It appears the greens are the only areas of the course that are irrigated, and they are really well cared for and help make Meadowview a really fun course to play. The greens also have some serious slope, making for some very challenging putts, especially #1, #4 and #6.

The fairways and tees were pretty firm due to the dry summer. This made for some long tee shots which had the already shorter course playing very short.

At only $12 to walk 18 on weekdays, you won't find a better value. The pace of play was quick, despite the course getting busy as our round went on. And the few locals I spoke to were as kind as can be, which made for a nice experience.

My favorite hole is the par 5 3rd hole. An aggressive drive over the corner can make this hole reachable for longer hitters. The green is wide, but not deep, and it has a lot of slope.

Great Golf for January

I've only ever played Meadowview Country Club in December or January. This rural 9 hole course is one of the rare courses in Iowa that is open year around. For me, that's a wonderful thing. Just put $10 in the pay box and go. I love it!

The Good:
This is a really interesting layout. The fairways are quite wide, which makes it pretty easy to get off the tee. But if you stray too far you can get in some tree trouble. The holes meander around the high point of the course which is roughly the 5th tee box. The rolling elevation changes create some different looks from tee to green.

I also love the concept of the pay box and being on the honor system. Very Midwestern!

The Average:
Take this with a grain of salt, given that I've only played in winter months, but the conditions of the course are average at best. But even in the midst of a cold Iowa winter, the greens roll fairly true. And for the price, you are definitely getting your money's worth with the overall condition.

The Not So Good:
I really don't have anything to put here. I'll try to go back and play Meadowview in the summer when the course is busier and the clubhouse is open to see if anything pops out.

I would definitely recommend Meadowview Country Club for a relaxed 9 hole round. And I commend them for being open in the winter months for those rare warm Iowa winter days.
