First time I've played this course since it switched over from Stone Creek. I enjoyed the changes in course layout, and quality dams in the bunkers. I got a great deal using golf now, and definitely plan to return!
Great Course
We travelled an hour and a half to play the course and it was worth the trip. Course is in great condition and the weather was perfect. Staff was friendly and we stayed for dinner at Homegrown in the clubhouse. Part of the University of Illinois, so if you are an alum, it is a must play!
Good championship course. 7500 yards from the tips is a great test for any plus handicap. Sand and greens are perfect
Really nice course
Great service, friendly, helpful and polite. Played off white tees, greens firm but good condition, well manicured, . My index meant I played off 9, it’s a challenge a good test of course management ! Really enjoyed it definitely play it again.
It’s Back
When I saw the course was open again to the public last weekend I wanted to play, but thought it would be packed. I was wrong. Sunday afternoon was wide open and perfect. Played in under 3 hours. Since it just opened, the course and facilities were immaculate and I hope people help keep it that way. All of the staff I met were extremely nice and helpful to me. Well worth the price for the quality in my opinion. Cheers!
Southern fun
Was a nice course. Carts are very nice
Club house was very nice food was good.
Course was a good challenge and had some nice scenery.
good condition and enjoyed the layout.
Only down side no cart service
enjoyed my day and would recomend it and play again in a heartbeat.
Great round!
Weather was cool but windy. The area had received several inches of rain the previous week so it was cart path only, which made walking more time saving, but the course was in amazing condition. Great facility, good food and a great time had by all. We will return!
Quality Course, Good Value.
This course is nice especially for the money. Course was in great shape, greens in particular. Generous fairways to play from. Multiple tees (3) to up the difficulty if you choose. Almost 7200 from the tips could make this course difficult. Had taken on a good deal of rain the previous 3 days. Some casual water but was very playable. Although it was fathers day the course was pretty empty, have no idea why. Solid restaurant bar area for after the round.
Drove down from Chicago to meet my dad & play. This course in Chicago would be at least 80 bucks with a cart on the weekends.
Great Course
Another Nugent gem. Generous fairways and true greens with reachable par 5's. If you are in the Urbana, Illinois area, its a must play. The course was in great shape for spring.
Great Course
Typical Nugent course, what you see is what you get. The fairways are generous and the greens are true. The course was in excellent condition for early spring. I will play this course again the next time I visit Urbana, Illinois,
Nicest course I"ve played all year.
Course fairways, greens and tee boxes were in fantastic condition not to mention it was towards the end of the season. Greens were tricky. Staff was polite and helpful. Any discount on greens fees make this a must play.
Fairways and green were remarkable
Course was in excellent condition. Hitting the fairway is a must to score well
Excellent course but very slow pace of play
This is a links-style course with wide, forgiving fairways on most holes and relatively few trees that come into play. The course is well maintained and attractive. The pace of play on the day I visited ranged from slow to very slow. On almost all of the 18 holes, we waited 5 to 10 minutes to tee off. This was not due to a single group but apparently an accumulation of delays from several slow groups. The course marshal drove through a few times but did not seem to speak with anyone about the pace or make a difference in the result. I would be reluctant to play this course again with it running an hour slower than advertised. Maybe this was just a particularly bad day, as the starter said the front 9 should be 2 hrs and the back 9 2:15.
Tee to green was amazing
We played on a Sunday morning without any real waiting. The course was in great shape. This was my first time playing this course and I probably would have done a few things differently. There are some blind creeks and bunkers. The staff was phenomenal and the course was equal.
Still bad
I was hoping things might have improved here, with Kemper Sports supposedly managing the course this year. But whoever is "managing" this, isn't doing much. The starter is a septuagenarian who doesn't know what he's doing. On a mid-morning Saturday, when the course was jammed, he sent out a 4some, then a 2some, then a 4some, then a 2some. Ever heard of combining 2somes, or putting a single with a 2some to make a 3some? The 2hr35min front 9 was painful and predictable. No apologies from the staff or efforts to speed play were made. The women in front of us were waiting for the green to clear from 250 yds, despite having trouble hitting it more than 50 yds at a time. The bunkers were all washed out and unattended to, with a mixture of mud and hardpan. Oddly, they had been machine raked on only two holes (12 and 13). Why? Who knows. No explanation or warning was offered for the course conditions. The greens were littered with unrepaired ball marks. The back-right corner on the 7th green had recently been aerified, due to damage. So, they decided to put the hole there, instead of the other 6,000 sq ft of pin-able green. The beer selection was poor in the drink cart. Nothing other than light-beer-type swill. The $60 green fee to play here on a weekend is crazy. If I had paid full price, I would be even more upset. Having seen no signs of improvement, I won't be back this year.
Nice course, slow play
Course was well maintained and in good shape. Carts with GPS are nice. Only problem out here is pace of play. Group in front of me was playing 3 golfers with one bag. There was no starter to manage golfers teeing off; having a starter can help smooth the flow of the course and prevent things like 3 people playing out of one bag - that shouldn't be allowed, and they need to make sure people know to let others through.
speedy unmarked greens!
The course is in great shape right. Excellent manicure. Subtle breaking slick greens. It was an excellent round of golf.
