Stunning course on the river
Rockford Country Club is one of my favorite golf courses in the Midwest. Originally built in 1899 it is a pre-1900 golf course that has certainly stood the test of time.
The course has a great mix of short and long holes, open and wide fairways and it makes you think as much as any course I have ever played.
Interesting facts:
-> Fred McLeod was one of the original golf pros who later went on to win the 1905 US Open.
-> RCC has two square shaped greens
-> Back in 1899 RCC had one of the longest golf holes in the United States. The hole was a combination of what stands as two holes today...holes #4 and #5.
-> The course has hosted many great golfers including Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan.
Well worth the time!
The course is always is excellent condition and with its location adjacent to the Rock River, provides added challenges and scenic value. A traditional layout [founded 1899] designed to utilize the natural features of the property.
