Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
About
Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport stretches across 237 acres of gently rolling hills covered with native prairie grass. The course has a links-style layout that can play much tougher depending on the wind speed that day. Overall though, the course is player friendly enough for any skill level. The layout is open with few trees and the fairways are wide and forgiving, taking away some of the intimidation provided by the bordering rough. There is also water on the golf course, but the hazards that come into play aren't overly strenuous. You can still expect some challenges from the minimal but strategically placed bunkering. Besides the golf course, Prairie Bluff is known as one of the area's hidden gems for its outstanding restaurant, which is known especially for the barbecue brisket.

Reviews
Pleasantly Surprised
The grass was spectacular. Everywhere I looked, I saw beautifully manicured grass. Great grass equals great play. Love this place.
One of these best link course in the area
The only way i can describe this course: BEAUTIFUL

I love prairie bluff always in good condition they
In good conditions
Nice track, bit pricey for the location
Course conditions were nice, well maintained. No major issues. Clubhouse is decent, food was good and overall a great place to play.
Great track for a park district course
Great layout, challenging but fair. Would be great to have a few more obstructions/bunkers to add to the challenge. Fairways were in great shape, greens are among the best in the area. They are firm, healthy, roll true and free of divots and ball marks.
Club house is really nice. Food looked decent. Pace was a bit slow the day we played.

Long & Challenging
Really long and challenging course. The course has some dog legs and some holes where you either have to play it aggressive: drive over trees or long grass or play a huge cut or draw; or conservatively: laying up and going for fairways instead of shortcuts to the green. The par 3s are okay in terms of challenging, but the par 5s are long and even a couple long par 4s that look like a mile long. The course is very open so windy days can either help or make a 2 shot hole turn into 3.
The pace of play is not too bad but during the busy hours it may take 5-6 hours to play depending on size of the group. Also they dont tell you that the local high school is on so it is even longer to play. Sometimes the older people are playing on the course and they can take a while or even get mad if you hit close to them to get them to hurry up.
The course is always in good shape but pricewise compared to other surrounding courses with the same or worse layout and keepup is definitely worth paying a little more. The food is always good and the environment sitting outside after a round enjoying some crispy ones is always a good time. I live 45 minutes away and always play here at least once every couple weeks at 6am. Its that worth it. Hope this helps!

Great value
The course is always in good shape and has a variety of tees to accommodate all golfers. Played early AM so pace was not an issue. For under $40 it’s a great value.

I haven’t been here in YEAAARS! It was a great homecoming for me. The course is in GREAT shape! I forgot how some holes played so it was almost playing it for the first time. I would recommend anyone from any skill level to play here!
Wow, we are so happy you enjoyed your round, Jabrahan! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Great Course
First time at Prairie Bluff - great course.. Awesome value for the money, course was in great shape and staff was very friendly. Will definitely go back - there are a few holes I want back :). Today was cart paths only so got a lot more steps on the fit bit...... I think it could have easily been a 90 degree rule for carts today but have to respect the greens keeper.... they have the course in great shape. Overall, great course, good experience, played in 4 hours even with cart path only and we let a group play though.

Incredible Gem
Was impressed at every turn; I played on a gusty, wind blasting 52 degree 6am and I simply could not get imagine it playing any better(we have had tons of rain/bunkers still too wet to groom but still easy hitting from.
Kind of links style and kind of prairie style.
I played the absurd gold tees which were sometimes on other holes and it was all of 7000 yards and then some.
Monster tee shot would be followed up with a 5 wood or something close. Not too hard for a straight hitter that does some course planning: meaning don’t smash driver every hole.
Nice clubhouse and pro shop.
