Great course..
Played with the First Tee Players Booklet. The course was in top shape, tee to green no complaints.
Great condition
This course was really pleasant to play. It was in great condition, particularly given the time of year. The greens were spectacularly fast but also true. The club is fully private so not an easy tee time to get. Well worth a trip though if you do get a chance to play it. I don't know what the monthly dues are for the members but for anyone looking to join a club in the area, I would think this place is worth a look. The only possible downside was the rather modest clubhouse - probably a little small and sparse inside for some tastes, though it didn't bother me in the slightest.
Good Golfing Experience
Laurel Springs provides a nice private club setting with very good practice facilities. The layout is good and very playable when dry which it was for this round. Much of the course adjoins a swamp and does not drain well. I found the course to be very clean, but in slightly below average condition. The greens, while fast are somewhat bare with ragged cups. Most of the bunkers need significant maintenance, and did not seem to have been recently groomed. In the past year, I have play one or more rounds at approximately 9 Club Corp. operated facilities. There is a general trend that the maintenance at these courses is focused on a nice appearance over good course conditioning. Note: I rate golf courses on an absolute scale using the following guidelines:
5 stars - Top tier golf course, all amenities, outstanding service/management and excellent course maintenance.
4 stars - Good to great course layout, complete club experience (full practice facilities, locker room, grill, etc...), efficient service/management, very good course maintenance.
3 stars - Good course layout, average practice facilities, average service/management, average course maintenance. No pace of play problems.
2 stars - Nothing special, but an enjoyable course to play. Only minor issues with pace of play.
1 star - Not worth the effort or serious pace of play issues. I take pace of play very seriously.
A 5-hour round is a minimum two-star reduction.
Laurel Springs delivers
I played in tournament here and the course was in great shape. The day I played here it was sunny but the conditions changed drastically at the end of 9. It was raining hard and windy. My group was called in after 11 holes and the tournament was postponed. My group started on the back nine the par 3 tenth and par 5 12th was nice. We only got to play hole 1 and hit are tee shots on 2. Overall the course was in nice condition. The clubhouse that held all the players in the tournament was in wonderful shape. In the pro shop they had M2 drivers and the new Scotty Cameron putters. Overall I enjoyed my expierence.
Beautiful Course
I enjoyed my round at Laurel Springs. The tall trees and elevation made for a beautiful course. The greens were challenging but fair. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming for my first time to play.
Fun layout, fast greens
This is a very fair layout that allows for some room off the tee and most green complexes have a bailout area for safe play. First 5 holes ease you into the round, then 6-11 are probably the toughest test on the course. 13 is a unique hole that has no trees and a lake very much in play on the right. Overall, a really fun round and good conditions. "New" bermuda greens are still extremely firm and fast..
