Always a pleasant round
The course is in exceptionally good condition for the time of year, the greenskeeper and his staff are to be commended for the excellent job they do. The people behind the counter in the pro shop are always friendly and helpful. We were the first ones out the day we golfed so obviously the pace of play was as good as it could be. All in all this is our go-to course when we want a fun, friendly and hassle free round.
Narrow, hilly, very pretty
Slight narrow and hilly. Course in good nick. Par 5s are pretty easy but 3’s can be tricky.
Overall good experience
For the pay, it met my expectations. The course had a significant amount of rain the previous night. The staff was very nice. Pace of play was great. Some cart paths need repair, but you can see that they’ve made an attempt already.
Consistent player of southland
Southland is in great shape outside of some of the bunkers. But the foreman/ranger or whoever manages the front desk…he could benefit from some customer service refreshment courses. Not the best person to talk to when issues arise such as no shows or cart assignments, but he’s more combative than helpful. Otherwise, the course is great to play for the price.
CLOSED WITH NO NOTICE
We booked an 11:30 tee time and arrived to find the place was closed… with no notice and after paying the reservation fee online…. Terrible service to their customers. A bunch of other golfers were standing outside just as confused as we were. Ridiculous.
Course Closed Multiple Times
This course isn't horrible - when it's open. I have booked multiple rounds on golfnow just to arrive at the clubhouse and see the course is completely closed. This was not weather related - it wasn't raining either time and it was above freezing. Southland, if you're going to close, at least update golfnow or your booking system so you can't take reservations.
Course layout is also a little frustrating - it doesn't come back at the 9th to the clubhouse. Greens are usually okay, a few fun holes. They also want your ID and take a picture of it in order to use the carts - which is overkill in my opinion. I don't need my ID stored in a courses database who can't even update their schedules on time.
IGNORE PREVIOUS REVIEW
My previous review was accidental and meant for lake spivey. Please disregard that review. as far as southland is concerned This course closes randomly and fails to inform the patrons though. make sure you call clubhouse before making the drive. Not the first time they've closed and I get there to be met with locked doors and no information. While you are reading this, never play lake spivey and check out the review on them regarding unprofessionalism by the club pro himself.
Club Pro completely unprofessional
A group of my friends and I played there when no one was on the course. We wanted to play 3v3 and go out in two groups. The staff refused to give us a fourth cart even though we asked him because they only allowed us 3 carts. Point being.... we had to ride 3 people to one cart even though there were 15 other available carts an no other golfers going out that day. The Club "Pro" was ridiculously unprofessional and verbally abused us while we were on the range. He seemed as if he was ready to fight us right there on his own range and got right up in our faces like it was a bar fight. This guy had no professionalism and honestly should be fired from the course. Not to mention he put our safety at risk making 3 of us ride in a cart together which was also a total pain. This is a decent course and has great pricing but this "club pro" with some sort of anger issue has ruined it for all of us and we will no longer play there and we will advise people to stay away from the course.
Customer service
Second time in months that I was turn away because they said too many golfers are on the course. Both time I was a single player.
Challenging narrow course
Pretty fun course with a number of challenges! We encountered natural rocks, sand, water and a random dog roaming the course. The bunkers were mostly dried out and the fairways were pretty hard, but the greens were okay. Club had a driving range but not much aside from that for amenities. Good price if you can get a deal. In a little sketchy area though.
Terrible course conditions absolutely horrible total rip off for the price
From the smashed bag drop stand at the door I should have known. Go inside they have no pro shop and only sell srixon trash balls and reclaimed balls. Massive dirt patches literally everywhere, rock hard fairways and greens, no sand in the bunkers at all. Just mud and a ton of water. Cart path is broken to bits. 5+ hours for a round no Marshall and no cart girl they have no food or bev service they don't have a liquor license and the half house at the turn is closed and the bathrooms are out of order. $60+ for a Saturday round is theft at this course. They keep the holes closer to the clubhouse decent they other 16 holes are garbage. Design has true potential but the ownership should get out of the business clearly they are incompetent. I feel robbed having paid for this round.
Southland did not show up again today. Change the recording. Something. Never fear، mystery valley is right diwn the street. Our 4some has officiall u switched courses.
