Atlanta Athletic Club boasts two 18-hole championship courses as well as a par 3, nine-hole course. The Highlands Course has hosted a number of major championships including the 1976 U.S. Open. Robert Trent Jones designed the original back nine in 1964 while Joe Finger designed the first nine holes. Despite having two different architects, the course is seamlessly combined to offer a variety of different challenges. In preparation for the 93rd PGA Championship, Rees Jones lengthened four of the tees. He also deepened the fairways bunkers and moved them down the newly narrowed fairways. The greens and fairways were both made firmer and faster and the rough was replaced as well, adding a different texture that balls are less likely to sink into. The updated course now plays much tougher.
