Polo Golf & Country Club

I’m a Clubcorp member, not a Polo G&C member, and I have played Polo 40 or 50 times along with my group who are a mix of Clubcorp members and guests. I’ve never seen in it worse condition than today.

There was a group of four non-players traveling the course in front of us inspecting the greens. The greens have large splotchy areas that are simply missing grass altogether and there are weeds beginning to take hold in those areas. In addition to that there are a number of areas near the greens that are overrun with crabgrass. The bunkers have been dragged but not properly maintained with some areas that require hand raking left undone. Weeds are taking hold in some of the bunkers, as well.

On top of that they charged my guest the full $80 guest fee today. That is shameful. With the course in this condition it’s not worth even half that.

This is a deceptively difficult course. It is not especially long but really requires precision on every hole.

All but one Par 4 or Par 5 has large fairway bunkers in tee shot range, and the Par 4 with no fairway bunkers (#16) has woods just off the left side of the fairway and a big lake off the right side of the fairway.

Water can come into play on 9 different holes and every green is heavily bunkered.

Most greens are on the larger side and have significant undulations so it can be very easy to 3 putt a few times per round. Additionally there are very few flat spots on the greens. Most putts, even most three to five footers, have subtle, hard to read break in them.

Course was in great shape. Greens were fast and smooth. Very fun layout with some interesting holes.

Very nice course and I really enjoyed playing. Course conditioning is very good. The greens were fast, smooth and in great condition. The greens have lots of slopes and undulations which make them very challenging. The fairways were were, lush and in great condition. The bunkers were not raked and the sand had all washed to the bottom of the bunkers but that is simply because there was a lot of rain yesterday. Usually the bunkers are in fine condition.
There is a very nice practice area with everything you would need (range, practice bunker, chipping area, putting green, etc.). I will be back to play again. I really liked the course.

This course is not necessarily my favorite in the area but in my opinion it provides its membership with very reasonable facilities and good value for money. I've played here several times now as a guest and have always enjoyed the experience.

The course itself is very much a "get what you see" experience. Nothing particularly fancy but no goofy holes either. Good shots are rewarded and there are enough places where errant ones can get you in trouble.

I would definitely recommend this course as one to play if you get a chance. In addition, the service inside the clubhouse seemed very friendly and efficient.

- The pace of play was VERY slow (6 hr round) because there was a member tournament. If it was a PGA tour event every one of the groups would have "been put on the clock". 6 hours for a round of golf is NOT good.

The Polo Golf and Country Club is a nice course and generally enjoyable to play. Course conditioning is acceptable, but not quite 3-stars. The greens have areas of thin grass and a rough surface. It was very easy to lose your ball one yard off the fairway due to excessive grass height. The bunkers were raked, but need some rehab to be consistent. A few tee boxes are worn and need some attention.
