About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
West Palm Beach Golf Course has hosted a variety of tournaments since opening in 1947, some that have included famous players such as Arnold Palmer. This historic course stands out from all of the area's public courses. Unlike Florida's many flat courses, West Palm Beach has an undulating terrain that provides interesting elevation changes. The course features elevated tees and greens and rarely is there a flat lie. The rolling hills are covered with native vegetation, palm trees, and mature pines and oaks. There is also no water to be found on the golf course, another rare occurrence in this area. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that made it environmentally friendly. There is also a full grass driving range and large practice area that overlook West Palm Beach Golf Course.

After we got there staffer said course is being sold,. What once were fairways is now dirt, hardpan and weeds. Once renovated it should be beautiful. No crowd hence the pace of play. Greens and bunkers in great shape,
Dry, drier, driest.....a veritable desert
To quote Hawkeye Pierce, this is a great description of a dry martini but not of a golf course. I realize in S FL we haven’t had any decent rain in 60 days but this course also is undergoing an irrigation rehaul. Lots of sand...both intentional traps & non- intentional because of the dry fairways. Lots of ground under repair & not much real grass to speak of. The layout is lovely though & I look forward to its rebirth. Til then, we won’t be back.
course has too much sand
The course is in bad shape due to a problem with their sprinklers.
All Sand
They have lost this course due to lack of water - greens are good, but fairways are mostly sand. Even with lift and place it is hard to find any grass at all to place your ball. You may have to go 3 or more feet in order to find something other than sand.
Like playing in Arizona except there was more sand than in a desert course, totally waste of money
Don't waste your money
Thought we'd give it another try. It is by far the worst conditions I've ever played in. Because it was cheap we thought we would use it to for a practice round, not possible. It's very sad.
Hopefully someone will do something to bring the course back to playable.
Worst condition of any course I`ve ever played
I wouldn`t play this course ever again. The only place there was grass was on the greens. Every place else was dirt or sand.
Worst course ever
This was the worst course I ever played. Stay away
Very bad conditions
was told by someone at course the town sold it in November and really hasn't put anything including watering fairways since then. Course scheduled to close in April for 7 month overhaul by new owners.
Greens in good shape, but fairways had no grass at all on them at all.
Beaches
This is a wide and dry course with long holes. That day we had gusty winds over 30mls which made it more challenging. There are no water hazards but on contrary, besides the hole bunkers, there are multiple natural 'bunkers' in the rough and sometimes fairway. Go for it if you like the bunker challenge.
Burned up
Sadly this coarse was totally burned out from drought conditions
Horrible Grounds Conditions
The grounds were covered in natural area and fairways full of sand. Because of that, it was almost impossible to find your ball if you didn’t hit it straight down the middle. The only redeeming quality was their greens which were well kept. The course seems to blame the conditions on hurricane Irma, however the baseball fields next door looked immaculate so not sure that’s a valid excuse. I would not recommend this place.
Lack of care
Thete is lack of care and lack of maintenance. No rain but seems like they are letting it go bad.
The course was horrible it was like playing in the desert, course was sold and there letting in rUn down no grass anywhere the greens were ok
Terrible conditions
The course layout is ok, but the fairways are terrible. There is barely any grass and many of the the fairways and tee boxes are mostly dirt.
