The New Course at Grand Cypress Golf Resort in Orlando is Jack Nicklaus' homage to the Old Course at St. Andrews, the famed "birthplace of golf." The challenging course joined the resort's three other courses, the North, South, and East, in 1988. The traditional links design incorporates all of the elements of classic Scottish golf, including double greens, gorse mounds, and burns. Stone bridges and walls accent the golf course as well. The most formidable challenges come from the 150 deep pot bunkers that Nicklaus placed strategically throughout. Some are as deep as 12 feet. There are several tough holes but the absence of trees allows for generous landing areas that provide some room for error. Water does not come into play often but the wind is definitely a factor to contend with, just like on any links course.
