Time is not on Citrus National Side
It is sad to watch a one time Hale Irwin design go South over the years such as Southern Woods Golf club (now Citrus National).
Back in 1993 when the course opened, to great fanfare,…. it was a must play! Now it is not.. with poor course conditions on tees, fairways and diseased greens ,..time is definitely not on its side. The course has dropped into the $20 range for golf.
It seems to be the norm these days for golf clubs in the Citrus area
being reduced from their former glory. Let’s hope positive change is immanent soon! .👍⛳️
Time itself will tell if Citrus National management can make the course rise like Pheonix from the fire. We wait and see:
Needs water. Needs yard markers especially at 100 yds old ones very hard to find.
There were some good areas on the greens, not as much as we wanted
Apparently owning a golf course no longer means taking care of ur investment.. aside from +$100 a round semi private or private NO ONE in the area can afford seeds, ALL the courses around a 30 mile circumference no longer care about golfers enjoying a round on their course. These big corporations are buying up all the little courses & raising their prices wherever they can with ABSOLUTELY ZERO improvement. Nothing but WEEDS in the fairways & they've sparse also so you have to move ur ball to find a growth of weeds to hopefully rest ur ball upon. The Greens are diseased & Apparently there aren't any educated knowledgeable course superintendents who want to work for these corporations, they buy them up & I guess write them off. It's a shame.
Good layout in terrible condition.
Its a shame the course has deteriorated to this extent. I hope something can be done soon. Fairways, greens and tee boxes need a lot of work.
I play this a lot and send in reviews but I don't think they pay any attention to these. The course needs water and as mentioned several times some seeable yard markers especially at the 100 yard point would be a great improvement and for less than $100 some painted stakes would do.
It's too bad.
Played this course a few times last year. Have only played a couple times this year. Needs help. The fairways leave a lot to be desired. Greens are semi fast but bumpy. All in all, this course could be bad with a little TLC.
Course with good bones needs time to heal
As a local, this is one of my go-to courses. Moderately challenging layout, tees and greens are decent, but fairways are dry. Need a healthy dose of water to improve the fairways. Pace of play was 4 hours, a little slow but not too much. Value for the money is very good.
Poor playing conditions
For a private club I’m so glad I’m not a member the course conditions are poor. No grass on fairways. Mostly weeds and sand. Do they ever water? Greens were ok. Not worth paying more than $25 to play. They better get conditions back to where it was 2 years ago. Needs a lot TLC.
Nice course
The course is in pretty good shape. It’s not pristine, but it’s better than most courses in the area. The layout is good. The facilities are nice. The staff was friendly, but the food could be better. It’s worth a visit if you’re in the area.
The group in front was so slow that I had to quit after 12 holes. Maybe a good idea to have some marshal slow play.
Rained out after nine holes
Got hit with a storm. They were nice enough to give us rain checks to come back. Real nice staff. Will definitely play again.
Citrus
Course is much improved over last fall. I have never seen so many workers out on the course working on it. Greens are much improved. Love playing this course. If you haven’t played it in a while, try it.
Poor conditins
Tee boxes are very poor
Grass on fairways non existing mostly sandy and very hard packed
Greens were good. Only thing good on course
I will not go back till major improvements are done. Use to be very nice course. Don’t know what’s happening there.
Fun and challenging
The layout of this course is fun and challenging, but, it needs a lot of work on fairways and around greens. Greens, with a few exceptions are fine. Hope new owners are planning on making this course the great course it has the potential to be. Some grass and fertilizer, weed killer and TLC should do it.
Hope to see these improvements in the near future. Prices at this time competitive but any increase without course improvement will hurt attendance.
Not worth what they charge
Haven't played this course in years since it was southern woods. Grabbed a tee time for wife and I at $40 apiece and looked forward to it. But The conditions of the tee boxes and fairways were awful. The greens were so so. I refuse to play courses like Rivard and The Oaks because it is like playing in a cowfield, and this was pretty dang close to that. Wife and I actually quit after nine holes because it was just frustrating with the lies we got, even in the middle of the fairways. Won't be coming back.
Fair value
We love the course layout, proximity to where we live and the course facilities. The price was terrific when using hot deals and promos, but grass was scarce on many fairways. This is common on public courses with sand based soils and limited budgets. It was great value for the deal we had.
The fairways are getting better. Some t areas are bad like #7. They really need better yard markers especially for 100 yrds.
