Was not as bad as everyone is saying
Grounds were in good shape, value was good, needs a weed-whackin around some of the structures etc but you don't gold in the weeds......
Golf at Brandywine
I have been a GM in the Golf Business for 21 years. I was disappointed in the conditions. More because this used to be a fantastic private club. I went there with my wife for a Birthday round of golf and was glad we only played nine holes. Many issues with course conditions, more it looked like from just basic up keep and normal agronomic practices. Additionally after playing nine holes, went in to have a beer after the round and it was a hot day with no A/C in the bar. The good thing was the service was great and the beer was ice cold...
I can only hope that Brandywine returns to it's splendor. This was an awesome course and I hope it gets there again !!! I will be back if it does.
Perfect course for moderate golfers
i was sent out as a single which was perfect to work on some issues with my swing. A foursome ahead waved me through and it was clear sailing after that. The course was being fertilized that day and it was the only thing i found to complain about. I wish the tee markers were more plain also. Fairways and greens in excellent shape. Recommend highly.
....Loved to Have Played it IN its day....which has passed
I could see this must have been a good to great course in its day. But the clubhouse tells you all you need to know when you drive up. In dire need of some funds and some attention. Golf course is much the same. Seems to be running on fumes/reputation and the course shows that. Tee Boxes full of weed and greens are just hammered. I cannot imagine what it costs to keep a place like this pristine.....and certainly the golfers playing there now are not helping with pace of play or etiquette, but alas. It is a sad state of affairs for where this sport is headed. If it gets bought or taken over I will head back....otherwise will not. Pace of play was very slow....not a ranger to be seen.
Slow pace of play, but all in all a decent course
The course is a little tight, but still pretty playable. Well placed sand traps and hazards add to the difficulty. The last three times I've played here the round has been at least five hours. Normally that would be unacceptable, but honestly every DE public course I've played is the same way. (At Rock Manor, you're looking at closer to six hours)
The course is really set up for walkers. So much so that you have to walk over the 11th tee box to get on and off the 10th green.
I imagine Brandywine CC was quite nice once upon a time, but it's dated now and the staff clearly isn't keeping up with course maintenance. If it's as bad as it is now (August), I would hate to see it in the off season.
Terrible "Country Club"
Easily the worst course I've played in 2014. 80% of the greens were horrendous. Many had huge sand spots and ball marks littered everywhere. The traps were rock hard. The pace of play was a joke and zero monitoring is done by the course. We eventually skipped 2 holes to bypass a drunken foursome that was holding up the entire course. No cups at the water stations, not that I'd trust that water anyway. I rarely write reviews, but felt inclined when I got the invite from GolfNow. Very overpriced for what you get. This place must be going out of business cause the quality has nose-dived since I had played it last.
what a joke
So I got a "deal" at $59 a person to play and me and 3 others decided to check it out. Before you even get to the club house you will notice the 3 foot weeds in the parking lot, upon walking to the proshop to sign in you will notice there are weeds and trees growing out of the gutters. So instantly we started to get a bad feeling about this course. On to the course itself, tee boxes were in poor conditions, bunkers were mostly rock and hard ground, greens were the worst we have ever played, one green on a par 3 had a 2ft hole filled in with sand, try shooting around that, and some holes were almost swamp like. Also this course is very tight and other golfers will fire balls at you from many directions at once, one ball literaly was inches from hitting my cousin as he teed off. The tightness also brings random golfers out onto your fairways very frequently searching for their ball and holding you up.
So all in all this is one of the worst golf courses I have played, there was nothing redeeming that I would ever consider coming back for. And $59 was way too much for such a poor course.
Nice layout--Average condition
I have played Brandywine many times going back to when it was a private club in pristine condition. It is not that club any more. The fairways are average and usually provide a good lie except where low flat areas hold water. It had rained just a little bit the night before and there were many soggy areas in the fairways making the course play very long. The greens show many scars from ball marks and although fast, are not that smooth. Players will over read the breaks on these greens. The sand traps were raked well but needed sand desperately. The tee boxes shouted MUNI all day. Although this course may be in it's swan song it is visually pleasing and rather old school in layout. I was worth the $45 Hot Deal price but not any more than that in my opinion considering the condition. Pick a dry day to play or you will have a very long approach in. I hope the course sees better days.
Great value and enjoyable
Mature course with nice length and challenging holes. Mostly flat and very convenient for Delco and Chesco golfers.
Tree-lined course with bunkers as the key defense
Good course - generally happy with everything.
Two things that could be better
1. bunkers - extremely hard and packed sand. made it quite hard to play normal bunker shots
2. Greens - a lot of pitch-marks that golfers hadn't bothered to repair. I was a bit surprised at that.
Fast and true greens = Great round
First time playing this semi-private. A gem in north Wilmington with beautiful greens. I had lots of long putts I actually thought I could make because the greens run very true. Also very walkable since it's an old-style tight layout with no hills. Look froward to playing again!
Not Memorable
Not really a great course. Was told by some members that it's only a matter of time before it becomes a housing development. It's a quite unremarkable course with it's only saving grace being it's centrally prime location. Flat and bland would be the best description and given the lack of management interest the slovenly condions do not appear to be getting better before the bulldozers come.
A private country club does not necessarily mean a better golf course , and this club personifies that perfectly. Even at GolfNow prices it costs too much for what you get back in return.
Course conditions
Very good conditions, given the recent rain. A very good value for golf.
Will not return
It may have be a private course at one time, but one now knows why it went public. The tee boxes and greens were marginal at best. Even with the discounted greens fees, we will not return. Would not be surprised if it turns into condos and houses in the future.
great course with old fashion standards
great course, played at 12.45 and never waitedfor a shot. Will return soon!
Horrible conditions
Absolutely the worst greens I have ever played on. They were rock solid, chunks missing, and large sections were dried up and dead. Many of the fairways were flooded even though it hadn't rained in several days. Tee boxes were the worst, basically hitting off dirt or sand. I paid $39 during twilight and felt ripped off. Will never play again.
Slippery Slope Downhill
Course is on the downward slope toward extinction. Facilities were depressing and guy in the pro shop was surly. Price was not worth it, even with a major golfnow discount.
Poor conditions.
They are pretty much letting the course go. I would not recommend playing here unless it's very cheap
