Wet N Wild
The course is in a beautiful spot, but water retention is a serious problem. We had some modest rain the day before but there was significant mud, heavy ruts and large puddles along the cart path and in the fairways. Greens were in great shape and reasonably challenging. They had removed almost all leaves from the grounds, which was nice. I look forward to coming back next summer when the ground is firm/dry.
Candlewood Valley
Layout of the course was very nice but extremely wet and soggy mud was everywhere and I’m not sure how much rain this area has had but the cart paths were full of water just extremely extremely wet. Very nice layout and had some interesting holes just wish it wasn’t so wet. The greens were very interesting, and had lots of subtle undulations, and we’re not very easy to put on but I come back probably but not at the price that I paid for the course conditions that we had
Enjoy playing here regularly
Pros: course layout/maintenance, friendly staff/golfers, scenery, value, overall always a positive experience
Cons: few holes have good amount of water (it just rained a ton, not much you can do about it), very popular and can be busy, common unfixed ball marks/divots, not much to complain about really.
One of my favorite courses to play within a radius of 45min from Danbury for the value, convenience and course itself. I regularly shoot in the 100’s and just have fun out there so don’t listen to the snobby low-handicappers complaining that a $60 course isn’t PGA quality
Need to improve drainage of the course
Fully understand that we had lots of rain. But, serious drainage issues and the employee told us to drive thru the many puddles on the cart path. Will not play this course until drainage issues are resolved. I would recommend this course but I am not sure anymore.
Excellent no-frills CT golf!
Very enjoyable round, course was in very good condition - fairways were well-groomed, greens in excellent shape. Good mix of challenging and straightforward holes, accuracy and knowing your club distances is key. According to my playing partner's Apple watch, it was a 7-mile walk including the cart paths - relatively flat compared to other CT courses, good workout for a balmy Monday.
Tough but interesting
Course is hard. expect it. Greens are smallish with lots of features and protections. all the hazards are in play and there are a number of risk reward options on many holes off the tee.
i really excellent use of the space. Greens ran very well. putts run out and don't bounce. love that!
i imagine that it plays easier during the summer since it is pretty short (played on a 25 mph day in nov with temps in the low 40s, but sunny!)
Candlewood Valley
Always a fun time at Candlewood when the conditions are good, sometimes it can be a very muddy and wet track. Green are in excellent shape but a few were ready for a trim yet played well. It's usually a fairly long round BUT always pleasant . Only real complaint is that several teeboxes are beaten up badly and need leveling and some remediation. All in all, a place i enjoy playing several times a year. Would love to see a local food truck or two there, they could use better food.
Bad pace of play after frost delay
I really enjoy Candlewood and have played there on numerous occasions and never have had a problem I like the friendly people who work there and the course is always well maintained. Unfortunately, there was a frost delay yesterday and after being allowed to play, the pace of play was dreadful, over 5 hours. That is atypical, however.
