Rude starters ruin a good round

I play this course frequently, almost every weekend. I've even been approached to join the "Mens Club" at the course. I was considering doing so until my round today and interaction with the starter "Joseph".

15 minutes prior to the start of my round I was on the range hitting balls. I never heard my name called. After the end of my practice session I was called to the 1st tee, where I was told by a starter that I had missed my group (2 women who were on the green) and would need to "Catch Up". I tee'ed up my ball, took a look at the course, and quickly hit my ball. The starter said nothing as he watched me.

Before I could make it to my cart a 2nd starter, Joseph, angrily and loudly confronted me that they had called me "3 Times" and that I needed to get in my cart and skip this hole. I tried to explain that I was just told to "hurry up and catch up" not skip the hole, and was frustrated as I had just hit my shot. I was then threatened with being "kicked off the course" . I tried to defuse the situation, and then drove up to my group.

My group confirmed that my name had NOT been called. Also they were stuck in a traffic jam of golfers, as the two groups ahead were playing slow.

It's a nice course, but staff is very rude. When I confronted Joseph on his behavior at the end of the round he doubled down, so I will be filing a complaint with the county as this is a municipal course.

No need to ban me! I won't be playing this course again.

A Hidden Gem Indeed

I played the course yesterday for the first time on a recommendation of a friend. Reviews sometimes have referred to "The Griff, " as locals call it, as a "Hidden Gem" amidst numerous private and public/daily fee courses in the Greenwich/Stamford area. I don't know about "hidden," but the course is truly a gem. Holes are a mixture of parkland and mountain course styles and are fairly laid out. On the whole, fairways are easy to hit, but this course is all about approach shots and putting. Pretty much all of the greens have significant slopes, so approach shot placement is critical to avoiding three-putting on a regular basis. (I was fortunate to having been paired with three players who know the course inside and out, so the experience was like having three caddies. They probably saved me 15 strokes.) The course is in near pristine condition for October . . . nary a divot anywhere and only a few ball marks on the greens. Clearly the maintenance staff does a great job and players respect the course. Getting a tee time if you are not a member or a Greenwich resident requires flexibility as one cannot make a reservation until 48 hours in advance.

Jerry is not so nice to patrons of the Griff.

Went to the Jerry's window to show two paid receipts from a couple of weeks ago when we were cancelled due to rain. Jerry said, "insert your card." Jerry didn't listen. He didn't hear a word I said. I re-explained, then he abruptly said "tear up the receipts, you're 2nd in the queue." Hard to hear with the mask and when I didn't hear him say press green button he YELLED "HOLD IT DOWN," making me feel diminished. I think Jerry does not like women on the golf course, he doesn't like women interfering with the man's game. Jerry is always unpleasant and nasty. I always feel as if I'm interrupting Jerry when I go to the window and I dread it.

Great Variety, Good Vibe

Had a great time, didn’t feel rushed or like we were on top of the group ahead. Great variety of hole lengths and style. Range and putting green are open and course is in great shape.

Subpar Conditions

I was visiting a friend of mine in Greenwich and decided to get in a quick 18 before meeting up with him. Noticed that this was the only public course in Greenwich so I decided to give it a chance. Overall, the conditions were not great. Large swaths of certain holes looked like they hadn't seen water in quite some time. The starters were also not the easiest people to deal with. I was driving down from Boston and tried to communicate a scheduling mix up that occurred due their website and it was not a pleasurable experience, to put it lightly. If you're dying to play in Greenwich, then this may be your only option. If not, then I would suggest avoiding it.

Slow, but best public course in Greenwich

For being the only public course in Greenwich, it's a very solid course. I'd much rather play here than Brennan, and Sterling is much more expensive when comparing public courses. Practically no water, relatively short course. The back 9 is much easier and more forgiving so if you don't have your best front, you'll be able to save some strokes on the back. Personally, I'm not a member of a private club, so I very much enjoy playing the Griff. Only problem is on busy days, the golf is slow and you might find yourself waiting before your next shot for groups that are several holes ahead of you.

Great day of Golf

This was the first time I've played this course and found it to be a fun and also a surprisingly challenging round. Where else can you play a Trent Jones course for an amazing price!
Cheers!
