Mad Russian
The Mad Russian was a tough one again! Had a great time and many challenges. Always a fun challenging round!
Mad Russian review
Any serious golfer in Northern Colorado should consider playing here.
Fun course
I like playing this course. It gives you challenges that you don't see on courses a lot. You can either play the course or go for it! Great for someone who is not seasoned but wants to try things but difficult enough that if you know what your doing it makes you think. Great course!
Pace of play in oct?
I've played the mad Russian 5 times this season and every time has been GREAT, however this time there was a bit younger of a marshal on the course who thought it was necessary to "hound" me and my boys. We first were approached on hole 3 about pace of play the group behind us had not reached the hole yet and we were leaving the green, then again on hole 5,9, and 11. We let the group behind us play through cause we stopped for drinks and chips, and from that point on were held up tremendously by that group to the point we left after hole 16, but never ever saw the Marshall on the back 7 holes...I get informing a pace of play strictly during prime season but in October we just want to have fun, I am a superintendent of a golf course and know and inforce golf rules and pace of play on my boys. Seemed to me the guy just had some issue with a man and his teen boys on the course.
You are losing a lot of money by pre-payment. We have a league of 20 members-no one will pre-pay that much money to hold tee times. EVERY other course takes a credit card to hold the reservation. If no show-THEN charge the card. Very poor practice.
Staff-political comment-really?
The course is fun. Played there several times during the prior ownership.

We enjoyed playing here. It was not crowded and very friendly staff.
Eh
The course was decent enough, but the layout of these holes is absolutely ridiculous. Unless you have someone that knows where to go, you will be driving around lost looking for your next tee box. Guaranteed.
Fun course
Fun course. Lots of fun and challenging holes. Nice course to try new stuff.
Labor Day golf - fun, busy, bumpy
We got a last minute tee time for Labor Day unexpected when a hotdeal showed up on Golfnow.com. It showed the option to walk at an earlier start, so we booked a 3 some. It is a alluring course due to its uniqueness. Some holes just make you want to figure out how to play them well.
It is a tight, unusual course with scoring potential, yet the hidden risks may not be worth it on every hole. You have to pick your battles.
At the check-in, they told us there was a hiccup that allowed us to walk before 1p on a holiday or weekend. It's a short course. I was confident we would keep up. They blocked the 4th spot, since they were concerned a riding player would not want to play as slow as us. Well, the starter said 12 minutes/hole = 3h 36m. Hmm, doable, but could a full tee sheet do that on a tight, overlapping layout?
We played and found a walking pace was well faster than the tee sheet could allow. We waited on most of the holes which was fine by us. Still, the intrigue of a new course for 2 of us kept us engaged. It was a fun day. #7's blue tee is blind to #7's red tees, so we teed off before the group ahead of us finished teeing off...oops. Some of the red tees are very, very short allowing my wife to get near the green on the tee shot. There were a couple holes where driver was too much from the blue tee for an average player (#15, 251y, par 4, #16 downhill 275y par 4, blue tees). The greens were heavily top dressed and distinctly bumpy on some holes like #4.
Expect a bit of a wild ride if you play this course, especially on a busy day.
Forget the scorecard if you worry about your handicap.
It was a fun day. Happy Labor Day!
