Good course

Roadrunner Dunes is a great little course. It has been under new ownership for a few years now and is beginning to reap the benefits of that. The greens are a bit rough but definitely puttable. Most fairways have some bare spots but you can find grass pretty easily. For $25 you can ride 18 holes. Pace of play was excellent and the staff was knowledgable and friendly.

Great course for beginners

I am new to golf and the staff and other regulars have very helpful and patient. I play a weekly scramble every weekend. If you are new to golf they have a great PGA Professional to help.
If you are in the area it is a good value

This course has transitioned.

I've been playing in a weekly scramble for a few months and I couldn't have asked to play with a more welcoming group. The staff is very friendly and you feel like a local right away. Roadrunner Dunes has definitely transitioned(as other courses) from the winter months when the grass is a little brown to nice green, well maintained, fairways and faster greens. Great atmosphere and a good, affordable course with enough challenge to hone your skills.

Small Town Golf Course

II retired in January 2013 and picked up golf in August 2014. In the past year I have golfed on several courses in Arizona and Southern California. Roadrunner Dunes may not be a country club but it is a quality course with challenging par 3’s, 4’3 and 5’s. There is a low key atmosphere where you have gorgeous panoramic views of the surrounding desert and hills from every one of the nine holes. You will find a friendly staff and a pleasant surprise should you venture out to play this course. I highly recommend it.

Just barely surviving

Unfortunately, I live here. This is the only course available, and I hate it. Mud, dead fairways, and greens, no challenges. Have never seen a groundskeeper here, sprinklers broken, failing. Owner is rude. Female staff member is very pleasant, but that's it. This is typical of a city that is controlled by a few families/good ol boys. Have seen dogs everywhere, in clubhouse, on fairways, neighbors sneak onto course. "Elite" clients (desert hillbillys) can do and act however they like. Whereas outsiders, newcomers, or beginners are talked down to, and shunned, which is odd for a business that is constantly one donation away from closure. Save 50% - Drive down the hill and play an enjoyable round with polite and professional staff.

same here, I have tried to play it for almost 40 years and it gets worse every year, I drive to Apple Valley or Hesperia, once a week to play on a real golf course.

Ouch. I am sorry you feel that way about a place where you chose to reside. I am going to assume you have not been out to Roadrunner Dunes for quite some time. I too live in 29 Palms. We have a beautiful place to golf and personally I am grateful to have a nice facility right here in our own backyard. I know of no "desert hillbilly's" that frequent this course. The clientele I have encountered at this course are not just hard working locals but decorated and retired Navy, Marine, Army, and Air Force who served this county. We have teachers, nurses, and snowbirds who frequent this course. Hardly considered "Desert Hillbilly's."

Check with www.golfnow.com first...for best rate.. better yet ..don't come!

Management problems... watering (sprinklers) operated during the day...Are there not enough hours between 6pm and 7am?
Tee'ing off between sprinklers??? Not a good start!
Then there are the "locals with dog" who appear from the residential area ..awaiting the golfers to pass by so they can play (soccer??) on the fairway!
There is no "Marshall". The "golfers" encountered have no concept of "ready golf". Pay the $$.. go elsewhere.
NO... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COURSE!
(The recommendation below is not mine.)
