Letting a great course go
I've played this course in the past and always enjoyed it. Since the management has elected not to water the course anymore they should just close it or only charge a cart fee to play it. Not worth $20 in this condition.
Warm in the Valley
Diablo Grande is tucked into the foothills west of Patterson, CA, about 12 miles from I-5, about a 75-90 minute drive from the bay area. This course has a number of forced carries, making those holes a particular challenge. Most of the greens are protected with one feature or another; so approach shots need to be precise, not short or long. The course was dry; so we had a lot of extra yards on drives and long irons; so you would need to consider that when laying up to a fairway hazard. All in all, we had a good time.
Swan song for a true Legend
The course was dry but playable. Tee boxes were great , fairways were in general ok considering the water situation. The greens were slightly matted and on average slow. When I first played this course many years ago, it was green, plush and manicured like no other......fast forward to present and I wince at this terminal and withering shell. It is a sad but a necessity that they let it go. I can proudly say I ended my Legend's swan song with a great bird.....decent drive right side with a blocked green view...cut 180 yarder to a downhill 13 ft...that went plunk. Nuff said.
Too bad
Too bad they are closing this course. I think it's the better of the two courses. I think Gene would roll over if he knew.
Good Value!
This course is a good value. The course was in good condition. The course layout is challenging but still fun. Weekday play at this remote course makes for a quick round. It is a bit of a drive from the Bay Area; but worth it!
Peaceful and scenic
The Legends is a nice layout routed through a number of small hills nestled in a valley between some larger hills. A typical Nicklaus design in that the landing areas are large, but the greens are mostly well-protected (bunkers, water, elevation). The greens themselves were in good condition. Challenging, but not severe. Apart from a couple of drab straightaway holes, almost all of the holes had one or more interesting and distinguishing features.
Great golf
Hills were green , weather was great . Staff was friendly , had a great day out
Another fine day at Diablo GrandeI
I cant get over how nice this course is. I will be returning to play again and again. It was a little challenging today but that wont stop me from returning.
Great place to play
This is a great place to get away and play a round of golf, and maybe get to witness a hole in one as i did.
sweet course
great course. great facility great people. no one was on the course. it was a 930 tee time and we played 3 hours or less just my buddy and I. hitting extra shots since no one was around and we liked the course.
note: no cell phone service if that bothers you. since you're in a valley in the middle of no where
Peaceful
You'll never find a more peaceful setting for a golf course.
The Legends course is a walk in nature, no houses, no traffic, just a peaceful setting.
You'll find the course fun, but challenging.
Enjoy!
Great course
Diablo is a fantastic area and has two courses ranch and legends. It is excellent value for money on golf now and usually find great weekend deals. Usually a fast pace of play 3.5-4.5 hours except when there are tournaments.
Nice day off golf with great views
Great round of golf worth the drive for fantastic views and wildlife.
Diable Grande - Patterson
Overall, I'd go back to golf Diable again. The course has a good layout, some difficult holes but, I enjoy that part rather than a course that has no challenges. Facility is really nice too.
Fun at Diablo
I had a really great time. My friend and I have been playing for three years now, and it is always fun to take on the challenge of a new course. Its reputation lived up to its words. The place was in really great shape (to say the least), the greens were beautiful and the course was quite challenging.
Pace of play for Sunday afternoon-AWFUL
Course was great, but way crowded for a sunday afternoon. Had to wait 10-15 at every tee box, and had the groups behind us playing quick. we felt rushed. Left after 13 holes. Not fun
Excellent courses!!
It was cold but the course was pristine. A hidden gem in central CA! I will definitely be back and play both tracks.
Almost perfect round
Just about everything was perfect except my play. Course was in great shape, pace of play was great, couldn't ask for better conditions.
the fairways and greens are in great shape
one of the best golf courses in the valley always in great shape and really good staff people.
Fantastic golf course
We'll maintain golf course.. Country club style.. Friendly staff ... Everything is perfect.. I will play again..
