Great, interesting layout

One of my top two courses in the SF Bay Area (not including Monterey). Lots of variety in the holes. I almost always have to use at least 12 if not 13 or 14 clubs in my bag - one of the top ways I judge a course. Also that the last few college tournament have only seen about a quarter of the field finish under par tells you it's challenging - but fair

When they let the native grass grow high (during college season), this course can be a beast off the tee. Even without, the trees provide plenty of challenge. New bunkers are a big improvement, especially around the greens.

Stanford Golf Course certainly has the history and reputation. It was designed by the legendary George Thomas in the 20s and became the college home of Tom Watson and Tiger Woods. There are certainly some memorable moments : the opening tee shot over Junipero Serra Blvd, the par-4 12th with three trees in the middle of the fairway, and the unique par-3 14th set on the side of a steep bank. One feels, though, that Stanford, with a proper restoration, could be a truly great course. At the moment, the maintenance staff seems to be focused on keeping the course a championship test; the course is very soft and slow. This is really the opposite direction from what the course should be doing. That being said, the recent bunker work has made the course more interesting and strategic to the modern player.

Phenomenal Golf Course

Played Stanford this weekend and had a great experience. The layout is beautiful - tree lined holes on the front 9, great high-elevation views on the back 9. Course was in great shape, greens were pure, bunkers were perfect. Each hole is interesting. And the staff was awesome - I lost my rangefinder b/t 1 and 2 and they found it and brought it to me on the course. I hope to be back soon - really enjoyed it.

Great Course

A great course with interesting holes. The 18th hole has a great view of the bay on a clear day. If you are a student, it is an amazing value (~$25). Alumni and guests not so much (>$100).
