Del Monte™ Golf Course
About
Opened in 1897, Del Monte™ Golf Course is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Designed by golf and polo enthusiast Charles Maud, this inland course boasts a meandering, hilly layout that has challenged golfers for more than a century.
It was the original host of the California State Amateur-still played on Del Monte's narrow, tree-lined fairways and small,well-protected greens-and continues to serve as one of the three courses on which the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational is played.
Adjacent to Del Monte™ Golf Course, the Del Monte Pavilion offers an inviting outdoor setting for any special event. Whether you are hosting a corporate outing or a tournament awards ceremony, all events are impeccably catered by the Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Beautiful day in Monterey
The course was in terrific shape. Fairways were modestly firm: ball never plugged but also very little roll. The layout is straightforward and, with only a couple exceptions, you can see what you have to deal with from the tee. The rough looked benign, but cost a half to full stroke if you strayed off the fairway. Most of the greens are small targets and rolled fast. Two of us got around in 3.5 hours, including several holes where replayed our missed putts! At the end of the round we enjoyed a flavorful lunch at the grill. Service was friendly and fast.
Great course, no snack cart
The good: majestic, historic, beautiful.
The bad: cart path only in the winter even if it's a beautiful day, no outside food or drink allowed and they didn't staff a food, beverage cart to drive around and cater to my thirsty butt... Also you don't get back to the club house to get a drink until you're done with 18.
CLASSIC
Very nice course with nice layout .We played in the winter and it was soaked on fairways.Cart path only for good reasons. We would definitely play again. Some of the best staff around.
Weather is a factor
The course is a great old school design. I unfortunately played there after a rain storm. Cart path only but that wasn’t the issue, the course obviously doesn’t drain well very sloppy lost ball in the rough because of long grass. I suspect that the maintenance couldn’t mow because of the water. I would try the course again on a dryer day.
Good golf course
Del Monte is a very good golf course.
The fairways were narrow and the rough was long and damp.
The greens were smooth and very fast.
Great Experience
Just visiting and played for the first time. My 14 handicap was no match with the course lol. For one, I played 7:40 am in mid 40s brrr. Too cold for me. Must hit fairways because the rough is penal. Small greens and some with severe slopes. Lay out is decent and I thoroughly enjoyed walking it. Sand quality is really good. The wedge just slides effortlessly. I have to play it a couple more times to get familiar with the greens.
Tee Time Issues
I booked a hot deal on golf now (prepaid). I checked in and everything seemed fine. However, when I arrived at the tee there were already 4 people in the group and everyone looked at me like I didn't belong. I don't know where the mixup was but clearly there was either a mistake with Golfnow or through the golf course. They eventually added me to the group and we played as 5. Though I felt guilty throughout the round because one of the other players was too uncomfortable to swing her club in front of a stranger. She ended up riding along with her husband and never taking one shot. She had her clubs and paid for her tee time but never played. Partly because she didn't want to hold up the course and also because she was nervous to play in front of me. I wish there was a way to email Golfnow directly with this complaint about mismanagement instead of write a review about the course. Not sure who is at fault here. Golf is about inclusivity and making everyone feel welcomed. When the starter tells you to wave every group through that comes up behind you before you tee off really doesn't feel like you belong on the course. I am a zero handicap and enjoy playing with players of all skill levels. Though feeling that you are crashing a party and being told "Somebody gave you bad information" after I booked online didn't seem right. I would have taken a refund and just went home if I didn't book a hot deal through golfnow. That family should have been able to play their round without me. Golfnow please let me know if this will continue to happen or if I should just go back to booking directly with the golf course. Thank you
Great course.
Great shape, but the lace of play was very slow that day.
On the best courses to walk
Course is well maintained and challenging In a great way. Greens were fast and consistent.
Beautiful course
Loved this course, Excellent condition and maintenance. Interesting layout with small greens and great bunkering.
Great Condition
Del Monte is always a fun course to play and it is in the best condition I have ever seen it. Greens are pure and fast. Staff is very friendly. Great beverage cart with good food options. Smash burger in the grill is outstanding. We will definitely play here again when we come back to the peninsula.
