McDowell Mountain Golf Club (formerly known as Sanctuary Golf Course) is nestled into the western slopes of Scottsdale's McDowell Mountains. The course is abundant in native plants and wildlife. Quail, roadrunners, and jackrabbits often share the course with golfers. There are 65 sand bunkers throughout, contrasting with the golf course's unique water features. Most notably on the par-3 eighth hole, there is a water hazard with two multi-tiered waterfalls. The golf course finishes with its signature hole, a par-5 that is a classic risk-reward hole. Uphill past the dogleg left, split fairway, there is a bunker to the right and a treacherous wash to the left of the narrow landing area. The hole, which sits 600 feet above a valley, is also known for its spectacular views from every direction, from Pinnacle Peak and the McDowell Mountain Preserve to the north and Camelback, Squaw Peak, and Mummy Mountains to the south.
