The Boulders Resort in Carefree, Arizona has a reputation as one of the finest golf resorts in the Western U.S. The resort offers two championship golf courses designed by Jay Morrish, the North and South. The courses were carved from the Sonoran Desert foothills, sprawling across stunning desert terrain complete with 12-million-year-old granite boulder formations. The South Course is the newer of the two and some say it is also more scenic, featuring two of the resort's most recognizable rock formations, "Rosie's Rock" and "Boulder Pile." Don't get too distracted by the scenery though, the South is a bit more punishing off the tees than its sister golf course. With narrow fairways and tricky greens guarded by strategically placed bunkers, placement is an important factor on this course. It also plays longer than it looks thanks to several false-front greens and large desert washes that cut across the golf course.
