Cottonwood Golf Course
The course was slow pace of play due to recent heavy rains. Standing water and muddy conditions made it longer than usual due to walking more. Additionally, since we were new to the course we were searching for the correct pins to play towards. The course would probably be more fun to play when it is dry and more familiar with the course layout. Would like to replay the course in the future. The greens were in very good condition and fast.
No FOOD??
Course you can tell was desirable probably 10 years ago! The clubhouse is dated, wood rotting on it. Explains why they can’t get a “food license”! I paid $30.99 on GolfNow. And that was a coin toss. But when my other son decided to join us, regular rate is $44! Not worth that price
Average
First time playing this course and Alabama. This course does not over seed for winter, so other than greens, everything was brown. Not a bid deal, but an over seeded course would have been nicer. Only about 6-7 golfers on the whole course which was nice. Some of the rough was pretty gnarly and you couldn't find your ball. Not a problem if you hit it where you want. Greens were good. Average course but not spectacular.
Diamond in the rough
Nice layout, pretty interesting course. Not a lot of elevation, but the breeze made it a nice challenge, and you can't beat the value. A bit off the beaten path. But I was surprised there weren't more golfers out on such a beautiful day for golf. It's not Robert Trent Jones, but I would definitely play this course again. And Byron did a nice job. PS par isn't 27. Regulation 18 holes.
Great layout
Long course. Great layout. Very challenging. I would play it again.
Not a good first impression
Got to the course early. Got a soda at the desk and went to my cart. Was told that the others I was paired with were already gone. Other group of 2 on the tee, so we were told to play together. Jerks did not want to have me in their group. Was told to "play through them" and check up. Well that didn't work, lost my first two shots, went back and started over. "No singles" before 1:00 on weekends. Course was not busy. Trees were eating my poor shots, so I lost a ton of balls. Several greens were covered in fungus or had bad bald spots on them.
Needless to say, I probably will not be back. Better Muni courses in both Montgomery, B'ham, and surrounding areas.
Firmed up
Course has firmed up better with some recent drier weather. And, even in windy conditions the course plays noticeably shorter firmed up. Greens have been recently aerated so a few a little bumpy. Upcoming rain should help with that.
