Considered by many to be Alabama's best public golf course, Kiva Dunes is also regarded by many as course designer Jerry Pate's finest work. The golf course is both challenging and beautiful, and though it doesn't sit right on the Gulf of Mexico, it has a great coastal feel to it with dunes, alligators, marshes and plenty of bunkers. The golf course's main defense is the wind, which is usually present. Pate designed the holes with the prevailing wind in mind, but it can play quite differently in the wintertime as wind direction tends to change. Kiva Dunes' par 3s are particularly strong with the Redan-style 13th reportedly Pate's favorite hole on the golf course.
