Charm and character. My Lanka favourite

I was fortunate enough to play several courses in Sri Lanka, and whilst Kandy (Victoria) is the most beautiful and well maintained, Nuwara Eliya was my favourite because of it's charm and character. Pro Shop was actually better here, good selection of hire clubs and equipment/clothes to purchase. The course winds its way through the centre of the town, a few minor road crossings and shots needed, but you predominantly feel like you're isolated in the jungle and forest... Well, apart from some public paths where locals walk by. Course layout was interesting, and challenging without being difficult. Predominantly well maintained, some greens a bit rough, but good on the whole. Caddies could be a bit temperamental, but easy to just ignore and do your own thing. My favourite part of the day was in the charming and classy club house afterwards, beautiful building, furniture and decorations. Good food, and not too expensive. Cold beer. Smiles.

Nuwara Eliya GC

Sri Lanka is a great destination for an inexpensive golf experience. I was fortunate enough to make my way there a number of times to golf. I came for the golf & discovered a wonderful culture, fantastic food & friendly locals wearing the biggest smiles. Golf has been played at Nuwara Eliya since 1889. A wonderful walk through lush, narrow fairways lined with towering trees. A mix of short & long holes provide plenty of variety. Course management is key to any successful round & Nuwara Eliya will need your full attention.
