Perhaps better times are past or future
I'm hoping it was just a quiet time of the year, but Eagle Golf Links at Anuradapura has probably seen better days. It's at the airforce base which is cool. Has been raining heavily yesterday and this morning (yes I know not their fault), but finally stopped and I managed to get on the course. The set of clubs I'm renting seems like they're from from the 18th century, despite their website saying they had up-to-date equipment, but I manage to smash my first shot straight down the middle of the fairway. Then the fun starts... The electric cart slowly pushing its way through the heavy course. After the first few holes the grass gets thicker, the ground is so soft it's hard to hold the ball on the tee. The greens are rough and long, the last 4 holes the grass is knee high on the fairway. But I played alongside the airstrip and they were pushing around some heavy artillery, this was cool. The layout was pretty good, but course conditions were poor. Guys out cutting grass with brush cutters. Tee boxes and greens were thick and uneven. Service was great. Electric cart ran out of battery after 6 holes, so trudged the rest. Enjoyed the day, but hoping they give it some love again soon.
