Hotel Las Madrigueras
We stayed at the Hotel Las Madrigueras and played the adjoining course - Las Americas - every day for 3 weeks. The set-up is superb. You drive your buggy out onto the course to the starter’s hut, where you are met by very friendly, helpful staff.
The first is a par 5 with a slight dogleg to the left. 2 good shots can see you on the green for a birdie. The second doglegs to the right, but keep your tee shot to the left of the hollow. The 3rd is a long par 4. Without a strong drive you have to lay-up before the water. The 4th is a good par 4 up the hill. Beware to make sure you put your 2nd shot up on the green or you could be hitting your 3rd shot from further away than your 2nd. The par 3 5th is an interesting hole over the water. The 6th is a long par 4, which needs 3 shots a to reach the green. The 7th is an interesting par 5 that needs a good drive to the left. The short 8th needs an accurate tee shot. The 9th is an easy hole to reach the green, but then you need to putt well. The back nine starts with a long par 4, which needs 3 shots to reach the green. The short 11th is protected by several bunkers. Water is waiting for you if you hit your tee shot too far right. The 13th has water in front and bunkers to each side. The tee shot on the 14th is over a lake. Don’t hit your drive too long or you will be in the bunker surrounding the green. The 15th is another long par 4 that needs 3 shots to reach the green. The 16th is a good par 5 that gives a good chance for a birdie. The 17th needs a tee shot to the left, so that you have a clear line into the green. The final hole is a good par 5 that needs accurate lines to avoid the water.
You finish at the 19th hole, where there is good food and the chance to relax and watch the next groups play in.
