Hawick Golf Club
About
The Hawick Golf Club has been in existence since 1873. The club is private with the course rented from Scottish Borders council, but maintained by the club. The Clubhouse was extensively refurbished in 1996 and is now very comfortable with attractive dining rooms and lounges as well. Visitors facilities include showers etc. Bar and restaurant facilities are available throughout the season. Visitors are welcome check availability.
Winding hillside course with most holes providing spectacular views of the Border Hills. A number of long par 4's and tricky bunkered par 3's make it a good test of golf. A tough start with the first and second holes alongside a road (out of bounds) means that accuracy is vital.

Never got to play
Nobody on site to check in, or provide a buggy or cart. Called the secretary, emailed, called again, no response ever came. I waited for AN HOUR. On a Sunday. Waste of time.
Day trip to the borders
Very friendly welcome on arrival, helped sort us out with a buggy and explained a wee bit about the club and the course. Found the course enjoyable with some outstanding views and quirky holes. Thoroughly enjoyed the downhill par 4 16th. In general the course was in good overall condition but found that some of the fairways needed cutting as it was sometimes hard to find your ball in the middle of the fairway due to the daises. The greens although ran true were a tad on the slow side and could also have done with a wee short back and sides too. Overall very happy with our day at Hawick, the sun was shining and got a round and a buggy for £28.50pp.
Best views and lovely course
Great views, lovely fairways and challenging holes like hole 16! Excellent value
Tumbleweed
We had driven up from Southampton to play but the clubhouse was deserted and locked. No staff were around in the greenkeepers'' area. stopped a chap playing on the first who was very helpful and gave us the email of one William Jarvis, a club official I presume, but he got no response to his enquiry. Waited for an hour but nobody came. Gave up and went down to play a Woll.
Utter waste of time and money. The course looked lovely though!
Clubhouse totally closed on a Monday with no access.
Greens had been treated with big aeration holes ie tined and roughly sanded - impossible to putt on - a complete waste of time trying to putt and score.
Played 13 holes in record time with nobody in front. Then a members 5 ball cut in front from the 8th - yes a 5 ball. I then waited on every hole until the end.
At £10 I should have known better.
Great value for money
Course in very good condition. Good variety of difficulty levels for each of the 18 holes. Clubhouse staff extremely welcoming and helpful.
Borders Golf
great course
great views
would recommend and play again
members and staff very helpful
Hawick a little gem
Nice course in good condition bearing in mind they had no rain for at least three weeks before we played. Greens were fair and again in good condition. We paid on line which was useful as there as no one in the club house when we arrived. Course is a bit hilly but no problem with electric trolleys. Only downside was a group of visitors in front who were very reticent to let us through as we were a mixed couple and they held us up for at least 6 holes before we embarrassed them into letting us through. Worth playing for the experience especially on the hot deals rate.
Great course
This course is in great condition and a challenge for all, great day of golf.
'cheap and cheerful'
No-one in attendance at club house when we arrived so can't comment on these facilities. Very much on slopes so not a course for those who find hills a challenge, great views though. Skipped four holes, which was fairly easy as course not busy. Confusing at times as a few blind holes and shared fairways and fairways which cross others. Sorry, didn't like it but weather not good so maybe a bright calm sunny day would show it in a better light!.
Not expensive so good value if you want 'cheap and cheerful'
hilly but satisfying
golf course was in reasonable condition with some interesting holes, others playing the course were friendly and helpful.
game booked for 11.30 arrived at 10.45, (not always so prompt, been known to run on to tee), clubhouse was open but not manned. clubhouse sign said bar opened midday. didn't have time after round to spend time in clubhouse, but would have enjoyed a pre-round coffee and roll.
A must!
If you want a moderately challenging game of golf with stunning views, then this is for you! Friendly staff and members made us feel very welcome. Would recommend to play when in the Borders.
