Rating 68.3

Located in the beautiful Spey Valley, Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club boasts magnificent views toward the Cairngorm range and the Cromdale Hills. Walking is relatively easy, and the golf course presents a fair challenge for every calibre of golfer.

Grantown-on-Spey measures 5,710 yards from the tips, playing to a par 70. It's divided into three sections: flat parkland, moderately hilly woodland and, finally, undulating parkland.

Perhaps Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club's most scenic hole is Murdie's View, the 275-yard ninth, a short downhill par 4 with the spectacular backdrop of the Cromdale Hills. When the heather is in bloom, it's quite a sight.

Grantown-On-Spey

A brilliant experience on a warm, summer evening. 8 and 9 were personal favourites. The views are stunning, the course very well-maintained and the holes interesting. I’ll definitely be back.

Course condition was superb although greens a bit slow for my taste.

Despite its shortish length, the course provided a good test. I could not seem to figure out the green speeds, despite playing the course twice in three days. I would rate it higher if I had played better, but that doesn’t mean the course is lacking - just doesn’t suit my game.

Good course with great views

The course was in good condition, greens in very good condition , some holes have ditches crossing them and the rough on edge of fairways.can be very challenging, we lost quite a few balls.
We were lucky to play in good weather & enjoyed our round.

Gem

Often used term but this is one. There are three distinct parts with all three requiring accurate tee shots. Hit the rough and forget it!!
Real test of golf .
The course condition is outstanding and a credit to the ground staff.
A very warm reception from the pro shop instantly makes you feel welcome.
Greens required putting skill beyond me but true for those who can see the line.

Play here regularly and you won’t fear any other course.

A great test of golf

4 of us played. The course was in excellent condition. The professional was correct telling us to stay out the rough. It was penal! A great variety of holes and we will definitely be back.

Spectacular

Course in superb condition, greens slick and tricky pin placements made for an interesting and challenging round. Not too long but requires accuracy from the tee or beware the rough. Probably my favourite Scottish course so far(admittedly I've only managed about 10!!! so lots to go yet). Twilight round so almost had course to self excepting the wildlife.
A must if you're in the region.

Tricky Braid

This is a course that is most attractively situated, in excellent condition. Unusually for Scotland, though, it puts bunkers and hazards right on the landing-area of my Senior 17-hcp second shots, 'forcing' me to play most of the par 4s as 5s (not all, of course). This is typical of the modern courses of Spain and Portugal, though the customary James Braid subtleties attract and irritate in equal measure! It's still fun, but since we were also held up for quite a while behind a competition, that explains the "Good" rather than "Excellent". Longer hitters will certainly enjoy the course a lot.

Lovely Course

Booking with Golf Now was a waist of time and incurred a booking charge which could have been avoided by booking direct with the club. Not sure I'll use "Golf Now" for future bookings!!

Good

We enjoyed our round of golf. We were allowed to play earlier than our teetime as the course was quiet. We were made to feel welcome. The course was in good condition and definitely value for money. I had some delightful scampi and chips after our round of golf. A fair course for both men and women.

Great variety in the course layout.

Loved the variety in the course layout which was like 3 sets of 6 holes. Par 3's were testing and overall pin positions acted as a good defence for the course where length is not a problem. Beware of tee shot at 15 as the out of bounds is a lot further in than you think!

A Hidden Gem

Tucked away in the Highlands, with the Cairngorm Range as a backdrop, this course is a real treat on the eye. After you get over the scenery, be prepared to be punished if you're not accurate off the tee. Well protected and challenging greens add further to the challenge.

If you are in the area and have a few hours to spare, this course is well worth a visit. Friendly staff and a welcoming club house only add to the experience.

Highland golf to savour

Set in a beautiful part of the Scottish highlands, this course is cleverly designed through trees and heather and although in the hills it is not too difficult terrain to master on foot. Like most Scottish courses of this vintage (1890) what it may lack in length it more than makes up for with interesting and clever holes and tricky but fair greens. This is not a 'grip it and rip it' course. It requires thought and guile to place your tee shot properly and to then work out your best approach to the greens. Failure to do this will cost you strokes! There are a variety of really interesting holes and my favourite was the par 3 eighth. A straight shot up the hill into the wind trying to find a beautiful saucer- like green shaped and surrounded by mounds and bunkers. Take a club more than you think!
A fine traditional clubhouse with friendly staff and good food made this an excellent golfing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.
You may pass through Grantown on your way to its more illustrious neighbours on the Moray Coast, but I recommend you stop and play this one. You won't be disappointed.
