Forgiving Course
Nice course, enjoyed my round. A few holes have a fairly big walk to the next tee, quite hilly.
Moved nearby and thinking of joining.
Cowglen great value
Excellent course in excellent condition. Well worth the money to play here. Really enjoyed it
Enjoyable course to play.
First class club with an interesting course is accessible for all levels of golfer. 10 minutes from the city centre and Google maps got me straight there.
18 hole course with all the expected in-house facilities. Professionals shop. Golf Academy, and good practise facilities.
The course was in first class condition( considering recent weather patterns) with a layout that can give a good challenge to most golfers whatever handicap. Didn't come across a single pitch mark on any green!
There are some significant climbs on the course which made me glad that I took my trolley rather than carry clubs. The weather was particularly hot and humid and I was gratefull for the drinking fountain between 8th and 9th. ( wish there was one a bit further on as well!!)
All Staff and members (I came across) were friendly and welcoming from the moment I went in to the professionals shop to the green keepers on the course and the staff in the club house ( for a well earned pint! )
Thoroughly enjoyed the day.... if only my golf was up to the challenge!
Unfriendly staff. Course not in great condition
I have just moved to the area and was torn between joining here, Pollok or Williamwood. Can confirm I will not join this course.
Very similar standard to a council course. It does have some nicely layed out holes, but not kept will. Cannot tell light rough and fairways apart and sand on all greens in the middle of July...
Staff very unfriendly. Little man from the pro shop approached us as we queued for our tee off only to cancel our tee off for almost 30 mins. He also advised that he could and should double our price as we got time on the hot deals section.
Overall, will not play here again and will join club either.
Good course
On the day of play the staff had just put lots of sand on all of the greens. The pro said the website should have warned us? Did spoil it a bit. Other than that it's a nice course.
Great course
Played here for the 1st time with my 2 sons we all enjoyed the course definitely be back .Practice facilities were excellent weather great and the course superb.
Cowglen
Good course ,had to play with complete stranger , that’s 1st time that’s happened ,but was ok , only problem I had was with the Ginja ninja ,but overall was good day
Very nice course
Really enjoyed this track, challenging layout but quite forgiving. Only negative was a 4 ball on last 5 holes never allowed the single guy Infront to play through, even on a short par 3, but you see this alot from older members, they seem to resent guests.
Hidden gem.
Had a great day here. Course was immaculate. Layout was very good and the off course facilities and food was top class. Best day out by far we’ve had with tee off times. Highly recommended.
Brilliant
First time playing Cowglen and welcome was friendly and polite . They inform you of practice area and range if needed . Parctice bunker with green and pins to get ready for the course as well as putting green with 18 pins to get the feel of the greens . The greens are absolutely brilliant and course is a challenge .
Hilly so best have power trolley and good shoes . Some long walks between tees and view from # 8 is awesome.
Would definitely recommend and play again.
Enjoyable course
Cowglen is a proper course, well maintained and with a lot of variation in holes. Although it appears to be wide open and have a lot or large greens, it is not at all straightforward.
There are quite a few holes that will be a challenge for par, but with a conservative approach will be straightforward bogeys - despite not being crazy long.
There's certainly a lot of holes where you are asked to take on a shot., either from the tee or on approach.
The par 4 3rd hole requires a good drive up the left hand side to carry the gully and from there you have a clear view of the green.
The par 4 4th (stroke index 1) really requires a left to right tee shot to have a decent chance of landing on the tight fairway. And again, you can get a clear sight of the green (albeit with a narrow entrance and over water).
The tee on the par 5 8th provides an excellent view of the hole as well as much of the south of Glasgow.
The course has a number of newer holes (14, 15 & 16) which I like the feel of. A dogleg par 5, with an approach over water and a short dogleg par 4 which still needs an accurate tee shot. Longer hitters may well take on both these holes. 16 is a par 3 with a large narrow green - that would benefit from a raised tee imo.
Some issues are there are quite a few holes with a reasonable walk from green to the next tee, and I found pace of play to not be particularly fast. Also it's a long walk.
There are also quite a few hills and a lot of greens where you may only see the top of the pin, and none of the pin if you play too close to the green (but I guess that is part of the protection).
Also unfortunate to have a road running through the 1st, 17th and 18th. Not really in play on 18, but can be a factor on 1 & 17 - especially following a poor tee shot. It's a free drop, but does spoil the natural lay of the land.
Great facilities with a large clubhouse and a driving range on site. Also a short game area and an old hole with maybe 140 yards to play from.
Great location and value
Really nice parkland with lots of interesting holes and elevation changes.
Everyone was super friendly and the head pro was very accommodating,
If your staying / going to Glasgow put it on your list.
This course was awesome!
The course was in great condition. I wasn't expecting a great course or one that would be that challenging so close to the city. But I was wrong. The greens were superb. Challenging subtle breaks that really tested your skills. A few blind shots where you aren't exactly sure how your shot ended up until you walk up to the green. The staff working that morning were all super friendly as well. The man working in the pro shop was extremely nice and helpful. If I ever come back to Glasgow, I will certainly be returning!
Great course
My title speaks for itself I stay not far from cowglen and I know the course quite well the course was in great condition the only thing that was wrong was that there was a four ball in front of us and never once did they let us through them bad etiquette I asked if we could play through them and they abruptly said no and reminded us that they were members other than that wee had a great day out thank you
Highly Recommend Course For A Round Or Membership
Great club all round.
The course is fair but challenging with a lot of interesting holes. The course is very well maintained and the greens are kept in great condition. Unlike some other courses in the area, you are often playing from elevated tees or to plateau greens. It's hard to say which would be the signature hole, but the 4th, 8th, 12th and 14th would all be contenders.
Aside the course, the practice facilities are second to none with 6 covered bays, practice tees (grass), putting and pitching greens and a separate short practice hole.
The pro and his assistants are very helpful and friendly. A couple of lessons with Simon Payne are well worth the money, you'll definitely knock more shots off your round than you would buying new clubs at a fraction of the price!!
The club is very welcoming for members and guests alike. The food on offer is of a high standard and is very reasonably priced.
I have played most courses in the area many times and chose to take out membership at Cowglen as I felt it offered the best all round benefits and value for money.
Good course no drainage
The course layout is good some nice holes, there are severe drainage issues with this course, take today the course is closed due to flooding, in the summer it's really nice and from September onwards it's not very nice.
