St. Andrews is the birthplace of golf and is home to a handful of some of the most popular courses for visitors and tourists alike. Among the more challenging courses is the Strathyrum course.

Designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1993, Strathtyrum complements the longer championship courses in St. Andrews by offering a game to suit the high and low handicapper alike. It was the first new course in St. Andrews in more than 80 years.

The short length is combined with 12 carefully placed bunkers and hidden greens demand good iron play. Sloped and undulating greens often make getting down in the regulation two, a real challenge. The prevailing winds blow east to west and can severely impair distance.

The course lies on an East to West axis with the result of prevailing westerly winds making club selection always challenging. The many mid-length par 4s all play far longer or shorter than each other.

The club is also one of only three courses in St. Andrews that allow the use of motorized golf carts. The club is a local favorite for those not looking for as long or challenging course as the Old Course or Jubilee.
