Saline is a nine-hole course that provides beautiful views along the River Forth and rolling hills of the Lothians and Ben Lomond. The course was originally founded in 1912 at its present location and new tees have given new length to the course, which now plays at 2,651 yards.
A practice green and hitting nets are available for warm-up. The course is a good choice for beginners who are looking for a course with a little character.
The first hole is a modest 279-yard par 4, followed by a 314 yard par 4 called "Kinnedar." "The Forth" is 166 yards and is of similar length to the nine's other par 3, the 160-yard eighth. None of the par 4s are longer than 380 yards, so mid and short irons see a lot of work.
"The Road" is the finishing hole and is another mid-range par 4 at 364 yards, 324 for women. The signature hole at Saline is the eighth, a 160-yard par 3, which is steeply downhill.
Nine holes on weekdays are seven pounds and an all-day pass is 11.50. On weekends, a round is 7.50 pounds and 14 to play all day.
The public is welcome anytime after 9 a.m. on weekdays, but is closed to the public on Saturday and Sunday is open all day.
You can get to Saline Golf Club by taking the Forth Road Bridge to M90, taking Junction 4 into Kelty onto B8914 for nine miles.
