Baberton Golf Club
About
The Baberton Golf Club dates to 1893 and claims its place in history as the spot where the steel shaft originated. The clubs and their patents are stored in the clubhouse. Many members have represented Scotland and golfed professionally, including the European Tour's Ian Young and the one-time World Boys Champion and current TV personality Ewen Murray.
A round of golf at the Baberton Golf Club starts on Waugh's Knowe, a par 4 that measures 405 yards from the white tees, where restraint is required not to shoot long from the start. The very next hole could be called the golf course's signature: Named Baberton, the par-5 hole measures 501 yards and allows for a little more muscle. The round finishes on the 421-yard par-4 Redan, which features a demanding tee shot that needs to be aimed at the marker pole, as the slope kicks the ball to the left.
When booking your round at the Baberton Golf Club, make sure to also book a bit of time on the snooker table in the lounge, featuring a panoramic view of Edinburgh.

One of the best courses I have played to date. Unbelievable value for money. You will not be disappointed.
Great course made very challenging with the wing!
Lovely parkland course which you can tell is a James Braid modified course. Despite it being quite short, it can be quite challenging due to the tight fairways. On the day there was a 20+ mph crosswind across most fairways, making tee shots very difficult. For a parkland course Baberton was in great condition, the greens were also quite fast, especially for a parkland course.
Would definitely come back for another round
Great course, pity about the weather
Very interesting course and I will be going back when the winter winds have subsided. My rather good tee shot on the first started to draw nicely onto the deceptively difficult fairway, then a very strong cross wind won out and carried it gracefully into the trees. I didn't get going until the third hole (the second was a par five INTO that wind!) but got into my stride nicely. The layout is really interesting, the greens were in good condition considering the awful weather of late and I will definitely be going back when things have settled down and warmed up.
Awesome
It was an amazing course. Greens world class and staff went above and beyond.
Very fair layout with a good mix of holes, fairways were in great condition, greens were a tad slow but still good for March time. Off course amenities looked great and members were friendly
v helpful
There was a weather forecast of heavy rain and lightning for the later part of our round, the professional shop allowed us to move our tee time to an earlier slot and we missed the worst of the weather.
The greens are very tricky with straight putts quite rare with most requiring both line and pace to be accurate, so I'd advise any visitors to spend an extra bit of time on each putt.
Pishing rain.
Even though it was the worst rain I had seen all year the course made up for it. I've played some nice courses and on a nice day this might just be one of my favourites! Staff are super friendly and helpful.

Baberton
Hadnt played the course since the new club house has been built and must say it is very impressive. A great place for a drink and bite to eat after your round!
The course itself was in great condition. The greens true and good speed and the course itself challenging but fair. I particularly liked the length although some of the par 3's are challenging the rest of the course is great if you are not particularlly a big hitter as all the par 4/5's very reachable in regulation. Would definetly play again and recommend. At £17 fantastic value

Can’t rate the hospitality and course high enough. Thank you to all the staff for a great day
Baberton Golf
Really enjoyed playing Baberton at the end of April. Very friendly pro explained all to us and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunate about the local rule at the first that you must hit to a certain area due to housing proximity, but beyond that the course was in good condition, and the greens nice and true running at a decent pace. Glad we took the buggy as although the course is listed as "gently undulating", there are quite a few hills, which could drag the legs out of you if damp underfoot. Lovely views, nice course, decent challenge! :)
