Royal Musselburgh Golf Club
About
Royal Musselburgh Golf Club sits at the tip of the renowned span of golf fcourses along the East Lothian coast, and offers picture-perfect parkland play, making it a must-visit. Royal Musselburgh holds the honor of being the world's fifth-oldest, having started as the nine-hole links course, Musselburgh Levenhall. The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Royal Burgess Golfing Society and Bruntsfield Golf Club have all golfed there.
Royal Musselbergh Golf Club's 349-yard par-4 first hole hides two fairway bunkers to the right. The 477-yard par-5 ninth requires three-shot play when fighting wind: The closer you get to the green after two strokes, the more difficult the pitch. Close down on the 410-yard par-4 18th, where it behooves golfers to carry a big stick, as going right off the tee, rather than carrying the drive to just in front of the green, is a major folly. Non members may pay to use the restaurant and bar, become social members, and get affordable course fare, as well as the chance to attend special events such as dances, buffets, and whisky tastings.

Interesting course
First 6 holes - 1hour
Last 12 holes - 2.75 hour
Caught behind an 'outing' of 3 four balls so had lots of time to admire course from tees and mid fairways but by end of round had run out of topics of conversation with my 2 partners.
Overall rating would have gone up but for pace of play
Average at best
Pretty disappointed to be honest , the course lay out is pretty good , the greens were true enough weren't the quickest but it had alot of rain to be fair. Alot of grass lying about made the place look untidy, the greenkeeping side of it I expected better , one of them cutting the rough was an embarrassment to the industry , cutting directly behind us as we are teeing off and as we were playing further up the hole, he even asked me to pick my ball up so he could carry on cutting, I wouldn't even expect that on a council course. Then we had a group of young kids on an exchange from Spain running riot in front of us , they were so so slow it made the whole experience very disappointing, can't see myself playing it again.
A must play...
We arrived at the Royal Musselburgh to a welcome I've never Experienced before at a course, the staff starting at the pro shop to the restaurant were fantastic from start to finish and nothing to much trouble... The course itself was in great condition and although not that long will provide a challenge to any level of golfer....Already planning our next visit sooner rather than later....
Weekend Gold
Course ok, but I wouldn't pay full price. Enjoyed layout and fairways. Greens ok (variable speed at times), but holes badly cut (small thing but big for golfers). Toilets were through a lovable door and all doors locked... even the disabled one? If you play, go for the special price option.
must play
allways a pleasure to play a round at royal musselburgh,
Good course, friendly ambience
I booked a fourball at a very good rate. The course was not yet in tip-top condition, but was very good for the time of year. The course is enjoyable to play, with some excellent views across the firth. Be aware that it is more of a parkland course than a links (which you might expect in this area). The professional shop is well stocked and very helpful. The clubhouse is impressive and the staff are attentive. A very enjoyable day!
Great golf
Played royal Musselburgh today in cold very windy conditions, tennis elbow and sore leg, but thourghly enjoyed the course, still playing winter rules, but very good course, the young gentleman in the pro shop couldn't have done enough and nothing was a problem for him, nice chap. If you can, play this course you won't be disappointed
Great golf venue
Had a great day, weather conditions helped.Totally recommend to play this course.
Day out
As usual course in great nick for time of year lots of leaves on some holes but staff trying hard to hoover them up but a very windy day pro very helpful when i asked about joining would recommend
More a parkland than a links but what a back nine
Our first time here. Very good condition, and, especially on the back nine, every hole is memorable. Ultra firm and fast with the recent dry weather, so approaches were exceptionally tricky. Played fairly well, and still missed my cap (10) by a couple of strokes. Recommended.
Great game of golf
Really enjoyed this course, didn't use club house facilities so cannot comment, but nice welcome in the pro shop
Beautiful!
Last 4 holes are a WILD ride - course well laid out & easy to follow - friendly staff & other than one group 2 ahead pace of play quite good!
Excellent course, challenging, great conditions
And the friendliness of the staff, their support, dedication is world class... Next time I visit Edinburgh will definetly play thia course again...
