Riviera Cancun Golf & Resorts
About
The Riviera Cancun Golf Club is the most recent addition to Cancun. Jack Nicklaus has done remarkable job carving this gem using the natural contours of the terrain, this course boasts strategic bunkering, immaculate greens, wooden bridges and the peaceful tranquility of the natural reserve that surrounds the course. Golfers will also enjoy the ocean views on holes 14 and 15.
The spectacular Mexican-Contemporary Club house greets guests before they begin their journey over bridges, through the dunes, mangroves and lakes which are only some of the elements which make this course visually stunning. The resort is 100% Mexican owned and is located in the Hotel Zone and only 5 minutes from the airport.

Customer service lacking
Overall course was fun and challenging. Was disappointed with the customer service. We paid almost $200 for the round that was all inclusive of food and drinks. No range balls were provided and we were instructed that we could go out in driving range and retriever balls. The drink cart person came once every hour..
There was no ice in the coolers and provided reuse-water bottles in the cooler with no ice.. we ordered food from the cart person because the restaurant was going to close before we completed our round. Never brought my son’s order. He never apologized and did not try to make it right. I left my sunglasses in the cart. They had emptied and cleaned our clubs and knew we were in the lobby, but never attempted to return sunglasses.
If I hadn’t returned and asked I feel I would’ve never received them. Disappointing end to a fun day!
Fun track
Me my son and brothers played this course 2 days in a row. April 5th and 6th 2024. First day not knowing the course made for some challenges. All inclusive rounds. Had to remind the drink cart to visit us more than every hour as we paid good money to play course and wanted to take advantage of the all inclusive perks. Day two was better as we were aware of the course layout and played a better round. I unfortunately the bar and restaurant closed at 4pm so we would not have completed round in time to get meal so cart server took our food order. Brought everyone’s food but my son who is a vegetarian and ordered clearly explained what he wanted. His meal never showed. Very disappointing as we paid almost 200 dollars to play and did not get what was paid for. The driver didn’t even make an attempt to make it right. Another group in front of us had the same complaint. Customer service was lacking. I had also left my sunglasses in the cart. They had cleared out carts and he clearly knew the glasses belonged to us but never made an attempt to find us to bring. We had left carts 5 minutes earlier. If I hadn’t gone back to ask I’m sure he would have kept them.
Overall course was fun. Customer service could use some work!!
Worth it
Some patchy fairway areas but overall really good. Fairway bunkers needing sand. Great experience made better by not being busy. Get in before the hotel opens
Fun in the sun
Great course. I paid $300 ($130pp + tax) for 2 and our round came with all drinks and food.
The only thing I would say is unless it’s a divot tool DO NOT BUY ANYTHING AT THE PRO SHOP.
Wife needed clubs and balls so we rented clubs ($60) and purchased balls. The balls were $80!!!!!
The club rental was a very nice set of Callaway clubs, Rogue driver, woods and irons.
All in all a fun tight course and would definitely play again.
Course shuts down at 430 pm
Booked a 140 tee time paid in advance. Came to course and it was wide open but food and drinks are included in round but cart literally never came around not once and everything closed at 430 which wasn’t in the booking so you couldn’t finish or get your meal. Course greens and tee boxes in terrible condition. Save your money go anywhere else
Good course
Good course but never play after noon because the course close at 4h30 pm. Finish or not and go out of the course. Why ?? I don't no. At this time of the year is possible to play until 6h30 pm.
Very Average Mexico Golf
The course is very average in both condition and design... Hence the 3 star rating. Very overpriced as well for what it is. It is an $80 course back home. Not one of jack Nicklaus' best.
Terrible
I read a review about this course and hopes the reviewer was exaggerating. Unfortunately, not in the least. For $180 USD here what you will get:
-Terrible driving range facility with 20 or so balls that have been used since the 1980's.
- No GPS on the carts which also look like they are about 15 years old.
- No tees in the cart
- No water in the cart
- Bunkers are unplayable
The only plus about this place is that the staff are very friendly. I genuinely feel bad that they have to work at thisplace. This course is worth a out $50 USD.
Decent Course
I’ve played Riviera Cancun a few times over the years. Course is decent and well maintained. Sand traps could use some work. Staff is friendly and helpful. The clubhouse is very nice, large and ornate with shower facilities. The restaurant is nicely appointed as well however food options are basic and not impressive. Driving range is nice however the range balls are VERY old and are literally garbage balls. Price wise it’s steep but most courses in Cancun and area are. Given the lack of play I’ve seen I’d venture to say golf is falling to the wayside due to overly inflated prices. These courses could be a gold mine if priced appropriately. All in all we enjoyed our round and will likely play again.
Fun but tough
This is a nice course but probably overly challenging for my playing partner, and to be honest me too. I am a 19 handicap and with the water and wind it was a tough day. My lack of skills should not diminish the day though. Course was challenging and we had fun.
Staff was super friendly, drinks and snacks on the course were included as well lunch afterward. Worth your time if in the area.
Not Fun
We expected a challenging course surrounded by jungle but instead, we got an extremely narrow and unfair layout with no GPS or even a paper course layout. We lost several balls on "good" shots because they were blind and there is trouble everywhere. The course is not very well maintained like a cheap muni in the US, the parking breaks on both of our carts didn't work at all, they let 3 singles and a twosome go out flanked by foursomes and in general, the play was super slow, they are near the Caribbean but you do not see anything except a giant ugly hotel, they charge $10 a pro V1, food and drinks were included but they make it very difficult to actually get the food and drinks on purpose. Basically, I can't say enough bad things about my experience. Playa Mujeres was a MUCH better track and experience.
Follow-up to Previous Reveiw
Follow-up with GolfNow regarding my booking. I dealt with a very nice customer service rep, who kindly took my issue to her Manager and the problem was resolved. They issued me a full credit to be applied to my future GolfNow bookings.
All I wanted at the golf course was to be treated like a normal, decent human being! Unfortunately, the staff at the Riviera Cancun Golf Club were unable to use common sense to deal with a customer. So, again they have lost a customer for life; and one who will tell all his friends about the horrible experience dealing with them.
GolfNow, on the other hand, has secured my business for life by treating me with common sense and the diginty we all deserve.
Thanks very much to GolfNow.
Extremely Upset
Apparently, I booked our threesome one day early in error. The counter staff didn't care and basically said "to bad, so sad."
Then they wanted to charge us $195.00 each to play when we had booked for $89.00 + taxes, etc..
One would think they would accomodate an obvious error. We paid for the round and they obviously got paid by Golf Now for the round. We just wanted to work something out....squeeze us in or give us credit for a future date if they had no tee times.
So, they just lost a customer for life.
