A MUST PLAY!!!
This was the 1st time I played the course, and I was highly impressed. The layout was nice. A lot of Dog legs! Some of the tightest fairways I’ve ever played. The greens were firm and fast. Especially for March. Faster than any course I played all of last year. I would definitely recommend you get out and try this course! The staff were extremely friendly as well! I will definitely play this course a few more times this year.
Mixed review for Otter
We played Otter creek on a warm but blustery Feb. day. Negatives were that we were restricted to the cart paths despite the course being dryer than I have seen it in 40 years and the burning wood piles blowing smoke in your face. They have cut down over 100 trees in prep for a course redesign and were burning tree refuse. The positives are it remains a Robert Trent Jones lay out and the greens were fast and excellent for the time of the year. the greens on the North and West nines were different speeds due to recent aeration. Overall fine for what we paid but prices rise April 1st.
Disappointed
This course was not in good shape when we played. Aeration had been performed on both the North and West courses and there were lots of bad areas in fairways. The greens were not fun to play on. This course was at one point, one of the nicest in Indiana and it still has the potential as the layout on all 3 - 9 hole courses is excellent. I hope that we caught this course on a bad day. I will probably call next time to find out if the course has been recently aerated!! We did not play the EAST course, which is one of my favorites there - maybe it was in better shape! All in all I love this course for the layout and challenges it presents. I think when the course is in this shape the greens fees should be lowered to reflect it. I was surprised on one of the most beautiful days we've had this late summer that the course was virtually empty.
Over Priced, Run Downed
I have played this course for many years, not what it used to be. Course rated as #1 in the 60s,70s,80s,90s,2000s. After Cummin's Engine pull out financial support, course has never been the same. (Course just recently sold) Cart paths deteriorated, bunkers deplorable. Fairways and Greens now average. Dead Trees and Evergreens throughout course. The East Course STAY AWAY not worth the money. Many out of town guest visit this course, save your money and go elsewhere. Golf Shop attendant rude. New golf Pro Nice.
Mixed feelings
Overall, Otter has always been a great experience. With a renovation scheduled, one might think the course is not keeping up with all the little things that go into keeping a golf course fun but also challenging, but that would be wrong. Conditions here are always super good. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
For the price, it’s a good course. I’ve learned throughout indiana that you usually get what you pay for so take that for what you will. A twilight rate would be really nice here but unfortunately they don’t offer that.
Course layout is a little all over the place but I think that it’s kinda neat intertwining things a bit.
Fun tee shots that force shot shapes or offer long carry’s that are rewarded. Some cool short par 4s with tricky greens and some pretty easy par 5s to help add some birdies.
Overpriced
Experienced golfer trying out Otter Creek for the first time. It had been on my bucket list for a while and was looking forward to playing it, especially with the fall colors. Course was in decent shape for October, but not as nice as expected for the hefty green fee. The golf carts were super cushy and comfortable. The pace of play was painfully slow for my twosome. We were not allowed to play through and had groups behind come flying up on us like we were the reason for the holdup. Overall, the course did not meet expectations. Scenic yes, but not worth the money.
Great condition
Course was in very good condition for this time of year. Was really surprised and greens were very good. At the golf now rate was well worth it.
Always enjoy Otter Creek
Otter Creek North/West is one of my favorite courses in the country. Course was in OK shape but it was just after they had received a lot of rain so low areas were wet. Greens were fine, and overall enjoyable experience. Caught up to a slow foursome that had everyone backed up. Guessed they were locals - didn't permit anyone to play through. But, still fun to be at Otter Creek.
Wading and Splashing!
Been a few years since I played it. Traveled 1.4 hours to find out that they had gotten a lot of rain and actually closed one of the east nine (offering no discount). The course was near unplayable, but they allowed cart path only. A 30 min downpour basically flooded the course to where is was standing water from tee to green. Cath paths flooded in several areas so all day driving through it, walking through it made for a miserable day and a waste of money. It was a holiday so there was no way they were closing the course. The course has always been very nice, just got too much water this time. Hope to return on a much dryer day and be able to play the good side.
