Designed by Donald Ross in 1924, Denison Golf Club at Granville has a classic design that deftly utilizes the natural landscape of rolling hills covered with forests. The layout is fair and not overly challenging, providing an enjoyable round for players of all skill levels. The elevated, undulating greens and dramatic elevation changes are the course's trademarks. There are also strategically placed bunkers throughout that present further challenges. The golf course finishes with its signature hole, a par 4 that is easily the most dramatic of any on the layout. The hole is known for the 125-foot drop from the tee to the fairway, after which a second shot to a small, two-tiered green is required. In addition to the golf course, Denison offers extensive practice facilities including a driving range, short game area, and putting green.

Former Granville Inn Donald Ross Course

Course used to be known as the Granville Inn GC and was originally designed by Donald Ross. The course has lost several holes over the years through a land swap and conversion of the old 18th hole into a parking lot, but what remains is very good Donald Ross.

The course conditions were very good and the layout has several large elevation changes . The 18th hole is one of the most scenic in all of Ohio.

Must play for all Donald Ross fans.

Challenging and beautiful course with elevation changes

This is a hidden gem just outside The quaint college town of Granville. Perfect conditions and friendly professional staff made me play the course two days in a row. Front nine is easier than the back nine but slopeing fairways elevated greens and undulations on the greens make it a challenge!

bring all your clubs and practice your putting before going out. Conditions were perfect with even rough surrounding perfectly carpet like fairways.

Great value. Play this course if in Granville

Beautiful Course

This course does not have cart paths, so if it rains a lot then they take away the carts and you have to walk. Overall, a very nice golf course, challenging on some holes. Others you can almost drive the green. Staff was very friendly and helpful, food was good and it wasn't too crowded.

A True Donald Ross Masterpiece

Donald Ross is arguably the most prolific golf course designer. Ross emigrated to the United States in 1899 and is credited with designing over 400 golf courses in this country. By all accounts, one of his favorite designs was The Denison Golf Club in Granville, OH. Forty of his courses are in North Carolina with several in the Pinehurst area including the famous Pinehurst #2.

If you’re familiar with Donald Ross courses you know that it’s not the length that will get you, it’s the approach shots and green complexes. Denison Golf Club is all of that and then some. Sixty- three strategically placed bunkers, elevated and well-undulated greens, and significant elevation changes deliver a challenging and enjoyable round of golf. As a result, the Denison Golf Club has long been noted as one of the best public courses in the Midwest. Four sets of tees allow players of all skill levels the ability to find a suitable yardage.

Before or after your round, the Bistro at Denison Golf Club is a great place to relax and relive your round with a frosty cold beer The Bistro offers a variety of craft beer selections as well as several hot sandwiches, appetizers, and breakfast sandwiches!

Before your round, warm up on Denison’s full-length driving range where you can hit every club in your bag. There’s also a practice putting green where you can get an idea of what you can expect on the course.

From the White tees, the par 5 holes are reachable in two, setting up some good scoring opportunities. If you’re looking for a golf club that the whole family can enjoy and a place with a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff then you’ve come to the right place! Denison Golf Club is a nostalgic Donald Ross course with a lot of character that can be enjoyed by golfers of all ages and abilities. Even stretched to its limits, the course won’t overpower you. Most of the greens are elevated and are true Donald Ross greens with crowns, false fronts, and fall off areas on several sides. General Manager Todd Bishop and his staff can assist with all of your needs

Best Public Course in Central Ohio

A pure gem. A traditional Don Ross course in immaculate condition. The course is as well manicured as any country club in the central Ohio area. Fast greens. Fairways are like carpet. True rough. Well placed sand. Tree lined holes. Everything you would love about American golf.

Course is a fair course. Can test shot making but also rewards the average golfer as well. False front greens force you to hit good approach shots and stay below the hole, or have a testy down hill putt. Hills around greens test short game, as hitting GIRs is a premium. Drive the ball straight on this course and you’ll be rewarded, get wayward, and you may be punching out from underneath a tree.

A pure delight every time I play it. Thanks for great golf

Great place to spend four hours

A beautiful late summer morning. Dew on the ground. A light wind out of the north. Temperature in the 60's. Three of my best friends ready for some guy time. The guy in the clubhouse, Trevor, acted like we were the most important group out there on this day. In and out quickly and off to the first tee. My buddies are all backslapping me for selecting such an excellent course. I told them how hard it is to get an early tee time here, three weeks in advance. I play here regularly but late in the afternoon, usually just nine. Then they see the first hole and it looks like it is surrounded by trees. But then I point out it is just straight away and the fairway is plenty wide. We all hit our drives in the fairway. It just got better from there. Fairways are all in excellent condition and the greens are near perfect. We are mid to high handicappers so it wasn't all peaches and cream. You can lose a ball (or two) on some of the holes if you are careless. There aren't a lot of water hazards but some. The sand traps have been raked but the soft sand is only about an inch deep; below that they are pretty hard and wet. We made our own rule, free drop from traps IF you want. I prefer to play the bunkers near the greens. Some OB along the edges. All in all a challenging layout that demands you pay attention to keep it in play. We played the whites and found the length to be just about right for a bunch of senior hackers. The greens are treacherous. STAY BELOW THE HOLE! But of course you can't so be prepared for some three and four putt holes. A couple of those greens should be "illegal". Then you come to the 18th. WOW! A view for miles, 200 foot elevated tee above a wide open fairway. You just gotta hit driver. First guy hits it left into the tree line separating the driving range, second guy slices right into the adjoining fairway. I hit one down the middle, inside 100 yards. Then the big hitter gets up there and puts one about 20 feet from the green! Longest drive of his life I think. Two bogies, one par, and a birdie to finish. We couldn't be happier. Stopped at the snack bar for a cold one and to count up all the skins, side bets, and final scores. Steakburgers are excellent. Again, I'm the hero because it was the best round of the season for all of us. Now they want to come out here again as soon as our schedules will allow. We will be back.

Best Course in Central Ohio

Snagged an 8:10AM Thursday tee time. Arrived early and the group ahead of us was already gone. We never caught them all day. Course is beautiful with lots of elevated tees and wide tree lined fairways. Not much water, a smattering of sand. Most holes are easily approachable. Greens can be treacherous. Don't get above the hole. 18th tee is beautiful with a clear view for miles. Fall is absolutely gorgeous! Big drop to the wide fairway. One buddy was only 20 yards off the green on his drive (300+ yards for a guy who doesn't hit 225 most the time. Ha!). They have a great practice range and a practice green that is a good example of most of the greens on the course. Some of those greens are brutal, three and four putts not out of the ordinary if you get above the hole. Experience here pays off. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Basic snack bar stuff but the wraps are excellent and the burgers are delicious. Very cold beer, generous pours for cocktails. You can not have a bad day here even if you don't play particularly well this time. There is always a next time.

Great public course!

I play this course a few times a year and should play it more. It is somewhat difficult, especially the greens. It's normally the best conditioned course in the area.
There aren't too many hazards and I rarely lose a ball there.
This is a beautiful course! The tee box on #18 is breathtaking!

Tons of elevation changes to deal with- plenty of holes start with a downhill tee shot but then end up with an uphill approach. There is only water in play on a few holes, but plenty of trees and bunkers to deal with.
Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
We thoroughly enjoyed our round and would definitely come back and play again.
If you're anywhere in Central Ohio, this course is definitely worth the drive.

A Truly Excellent Public Course

I believe Denison GC is the best public course in central Ohio. It’s a classic Donald Ross course, making it a challenging and engaging round of golf, regardless of handicap. Four of his original holes have been replaced with new holes and routing on the back 9; which only detracts a little from the experience. I’ve played multiple times this year, and each time the course was in remarkably good condition. Greens and green complexes are challenging but not punishing. Fairways are broad and well-maintained.

For this high handicapper, the course was a pleasure. More than once I just stopped and looked around for a minute or two to soak in the scenery. The tee shot from 18 is a lot of fun, since it descends about 150 feet to the fairway below.

Finally, the staff is friendly and helpful. If you want to play golf at an excellent public course just 30 minutes from Columbus, this is the place.

Hidden gem

This course has been around quite a while, but I never had the opportunity to play it until last week. Wow...what a great layout and the course was in pretty decent shape considering the conditions at other courses in the area. The pro shop & snack bar had great selsctions of merchandise, food & drinks and the staff made us feel welcome from the minute we walked in. So, go play this course....I'll certainly be back
