Played the Last Year Open

I played the course the last year it was open and you could tell it was going down hill. The layout and greens were the strength of the course. Sad that it closed as it was one of my favorite in cincy area.

Late Fall at Deer Run

The course advertises it is good for a novice. I disagree. There are a few "carry" holes and the fairways are relatively narrow. The area surrounding some greens can penalize you for not being accurate. Some severe slopes off to the sides of a number of holes.
Overall we had a nice time. The course played well late in the year and the greens were in decent shape. The pace of play got bogged down the back 9 but we had some gofers personally attached to their balls despite leaves on the ground off every fairway.

nice course

for being late in year the course was pretty good. first time playing and with setup you play the back nine first which seems strange but since hole number 1 is a par 5 that's fine with me. did see dear and other wild life. will play again sometime.

Slow inconsiderate players

Got stuck behind a foursome of some really bad golfers who were rude, inconsiderate and extremely slow. Course is in great shape but I only got to play 13 holes in 4 hours then I picked up because it was too aggravating watching the group in front tee off look for their balls for 5plus minutes, Then watch there 2nd, 3rd and most likely their 8th and 9th shots, playing like they were on the Ryder cup team. Come On People pick up the pace of play. Don't buy expensive golf balls if you cant afford to lose them. Play ready golf, you don't have to wait for the furthest away every time. When you come off the green hold your clubs until you get to the next tee then put them in your bag. Get your yardage while others are playing, read your putts while others are putting. One practice swing, why do you need 3 to 4 every shot, for some of you that means you swing 300+ times a round, no wonder you are slow you are wore out. Go to your ball, the foursome doesn't have to go to each ball and watch each other hit. And PLEASE play the appropriate tees. I am tired of hearing we like to play the tips it allows you to use all your clubs. Uh no, you hit driver, 3 wood and wedge ever hole when you do that. MOVE up and make pars and birdies it a lot more enjoyable. These are just a few examples I wish people would follow to speed this game up a bit.

Staff

Staff was very rude. We were rushed when I thought we were on pace, 2 hours for nine holes. Starter pushed us on turn, argument about being rushed so we left and finished out at Neuman. Starter was a jerk.

Never again

Too slow! I was stuck behind a school team (walking) on the front 9 and then a league on the back.. While neither group let me play through (I played as a single with a cart) I was more upset at the staff. It took me three hours to play the back nine! 3 hours!! I don't understand why the course even let me go out there. From now on, I'm going to take my talents to Miami Whitewater.

Hey Deer Run, I know you are closing down but come on...

Big hitters Arent rewarded

Course was very avg imo. Lots of dead spots around the course. Fringe was riddled with crab grass. And i saw at least 3 ant mounds on different greens. Course is set up tight. Which is fine. But big hitters arent rewarded much at all. Fairways end early. Facilities could use a makeover as well. And our cart was electric and i literally had to get out on the last 5 holes so we could make it up any hills on the course. I wont be back. But to each his own.

Always fun

I always enjoy playing Deer Run. The course is in good condition and the pace of play was great. Now, if only, I could straighten out my driver.

Great Course to Play!

I really enjoyed this course, definitely worth playing for the price - most Golfnow deals are around $20.

A few spots where you will need to send a partner in the fairway to make sure it's clear to tee off due to hills. Great for beginners and moderate golfers, advanced players might find it a bit easy (example - #10 green is 300 yards down hill from tee box).

Pace of play was a bit slow, but heck it was a Sunday afternoon with great weather so what do you expect? The ranger did a great job controlling the start times.

Clubhouse has all you could need - food, drinks, equipment..

Deer Run - Review

It is a nice course especially for the value. It is apparent that they are letting it go, as the staff stated it was closing in November. Shame as it is a very scenic course and for the cost worth it!

Great value

This is a pretty nice course, and definitely a good value for what you pay for 18 holes. Pace of play is great, the course never feels too crowded. Staff could be a little friendlier though

Great course at a decent price!

We played early in the morning (7a) and didn't have any hold ups and weren't holding anyone up. Course was in good condition, it had rained most of the night before though so things were very wet in places but that's to be expected.

Fairways can be a bit tight on some holes and there are a few blind shots over hills which keep things interesting. Trees are pretty prevalent as well, not much water though. I don't remember any water hazards unless you hit a truly horrendous shot (50 yds short on a 110 yd par 3, for example).

Nice place nice price.

I found the greens to be in pretty good shape overall, but for some reason nobody seems to repair their pitch marks. I repaired 3 or 4 on seeming every green.

Hot Sunny Day

Have played this course many times and this time was disappointing. Greens were bumpy and had brown spots in many places. Bunkers were hard panned and not raked. Coolers on course had no water, it was 88 degrees, and we were very thirsty. When we finished our round and went to cool down with a drink and bite to eat, both the pro shop and the snack bar had no air conditioning. They had a couple of windows open but had many more closed and a fan could have helped immensely. Upon questioning they said ac had been out for days. They advised that a rumor of the course being sold for housing development was a possibility. Given all of the above issues it seems like they are not keeping the facilities in shape as in previous times

Awesome Fairways

Great course for the price, fairways were in pristine condition. My only negative is that most of the greens were ate up with something and made it hard to put sometimes. Other than that it was in great shape.
