No directional signs for the first few holes so it was difficult to know where are going. Overall quite a tricky course.

Little Gem

I was a member at Kilrea back in the late 70s /early 80s with my late father and had wonderful memories of the place.
Hadn’t played it for a good few years but as my home course is closed for a Pro tournament I decided to give it a go.
Frankly it’s one of the quirkiest, best conditioned and friendliest 9 hole courses you will ever come across.
Small firm greens running about 11 on the stimp were amazing.
It’s a heathland course , established in 1919 and the small team of green keepers do a fantastic job .
Some members stopped us a for chat and proceeded to empty their golf bags of surplus balls they had found and give them to us, Pro V1s TP5s Chrome Softs, the lot !!
Lovely morning and will be back soon .
Great memories of my late dad as well , especially the day he got his only ever hole in one at the 180 yard 7th .
Golf as it should be, fun, inexpensive and challenging .
PS , be sparing with the driver, it’s tight!!

7/10

As a newish golfer starting out I found the course challenging. Good holes and bad but the overall condition of the course, considering the weather was very good. Found a member to be very confrontational when I made a rookie error. Rather than pointing me in the right direction he had a go at me and couldn’t wait to report it to a green keeper and seemed really intent on having an argument. It was a mistake. We aren’t familiar with every rule just yet. We are quiet respectful lads and his behaviour wasn’t justifiable. The green keeper could have handled the situation better but to be fair you can expect him to back a familiar face. Overall it dampened the experience but I can’t fault the course, especially in the conditions.

Very wet but still enjoyable day

First nine was played in heavy rain but the course was in remarkably good condition considering. Course is a beautiful and challenging test. If it was an 18 hole it would be one of the top courses around but playing the 9 holes twice was still a great experience.
