A bog
Course was saturated. We were losing balls which landed and plugged on the fairways. It was unplayable and should have been closed.
Like a farmers ploughed field
Only paid £10 but wasn't worth 10p. It was a bog. Lost balls on the fairway due to the boggy conditions. Course should have been closed.
Very soggy
Course could use some serious drainage in places. Played after a few wet days and course was like a swap in places. Had muck up to my knees just walking along the course. Balls plugging in every fairway. Played 8 holes and couldnt do anymore just had to call it a day. Also disappointed that we tee'd off at 8.46 and club shop was not opened so couldnt even get a score card for the round
Worst course I have played
This course should have been closed to the public, I have played course over the winter so understand conditions are expected to not be great but this course was unplayable. It was one big puddle. Expect to use a new ball for every shot as fairway shots will be lost in the muck.
Save your time and money
Played this course a number of times staff have always been brilliant especially in the pro shop. On the other hand the course was playing like a ploughed field. Plugged balls on the fairway, sinking into the ground with every step. You’d need a pair of fishing waders to get round the course. Only 14 holes in play and charged £20. Moral of the story is save your time and money and play elsewhere there is courses playing in much better condition for this time of the year. Hate to leave a bad review but it has put me off ever playing this course again.
Fantastic view and very kind, nice staff!
Great place.
The course is tight and not overly long. It does have some tough uphill holes that you need to think about club selection on your shot into the green. Good variation on holes so never felt boring.
The course was in superb condition. The fairways where lush and the greens had a fast pace to them. One minor gripe is signage to the tee's could be a bit better.
After the round we had lunch in the clubhouse. The food and variety on the menu was outstanding. Really enjoyed the food and the clubhouse itself was fantastic.
Finally the people who work there where all excellent. From the guy in the pro shop to the catering team all contributed to a great afternoons golf which was great value.
Course needs a bit more attention. Number of tee boxes in bad condition. Number of bunkers need sand
Great
Course was in great condition. Members a bit rude to guests. Course really needs bins around the place ball washer was rotten inside
Bunkers need sand. No reason to be the condition they are as there was tons of it around the greenkeepers hut
Not the best atm
Course is very very wet and mainly unplayable in the majority of places. Called it a day after only 6 holes. Would play again in the dryer months.
Good course
Good course plenty of variation of holes , drainage let’s the course down slightly but we were warned about it at the pro shop as ll in all good value
Too hilly and overpriced nothing personal
Playing golf at Fortwilliam is only enjoyable if you want to get fit in my personal opinion. There are steep climbs on several holes as the course is on the side of a mountain basically, playing par 5s and par 4s up steep climbs isn't enjoyable for me. Par 3 17th in isolation is OK for example but the par 5 5th is just a long draining up hill slog. The other thing is that it can get very boggy and wet later in the year and when the leaves start to fall you will spend your time looking for balls under leaves or plugged. You couldn't pay me to be a member here personally speaking so it's a bit much to ask for over £20 a round - there are far better cheaper alternatives around. Holes could maybe go along slopes rather than up and down to improve course. Personally it's not a course I would ever miss. You need to be straight off the tee here to score well and have good fitness levels or pay for a buggy. Greens are very fast. They are doing a bit of work filling in bunkers at the minute so some are out of play but I think this has been going for a while now maybe. The post at 15 to indicate the line is a nice touch.
