Quivira Golf Club sits at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, offering stunning panoramic views of the Pacific. The unique terrain provides the ideal setting for golf with windswept dunes and rocky cliffs. The course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that begins at sea level and sprawls across rolling hills until it reaches its highest point more than 350 feet above sea level. Enjoy breathtaking coastal views from the elevated tees and greens but don't let the scenery distract you too much, there are many challenges lurking throughout from undulating fairways to strategically placed bunkers. The par-3 sixth hole is one of the most memorable, known specifically for the conclave, cliff-top green that was carved from the base of a massive dune. Quivira Golf Club finishes dramatically with a classic links-style hole that plays to an infinity-edge green overlooking the sea.

We live in a world class resort town with world-class resort golf. We have played the Broadmoor, Pebble Beach, the Greenbrier, Virginia Water, and Mauna Lani. This was the worst golf experience ever.
This is not a golf course. It is a construction site. The entire golf course, all 18 holes, are under construction on both sides of all 18 fairways and is cluttered with the attendant equipment and debris piles. The cart paths are virtually nonexistent. They had just punched and sanded the greens and they are not puttable. They had just slit cut the fairways which are covered with the resulting detritus. The playing conditions could not possibly be worse. We made our reservations two weeks ago and they should told us of the conditions at the time. To not have done so is completely unethical

Headed to Los Cabo’s soon. I was really looking forward to this round. Sounds like I need to play somewhere else. Recommendations?

Much is made about the fifth and sixth holes at Quivira, and rightly so. They are among the most photographed holes in Mexico. Yet, there are plenty of other spectacular holes that you probably aren’t familiar with after your Internet sleuthing. Discovering these holes is some of the joy to a round here.

It is hard to believe that this course is only 8 years old. It still has some maturing to do, and will only get better. This place has already received much fanfare and is rocketing up course rating lists, so I expect the buzz around Quivira to continue with a white-hot ascent.

Quivira caters to the guests of the Pueblo Bonito Resort. Staying at one of their properties is the ticket onto the course, unless maybe you sell your soul to one of those timeshare hawkers that prey on unsuspecting tourists just after passing through customs at the airport. The steakhouse in the clubhouse is a tough ticket. The three comfort stations on course, as well as the smaller version at the staging area before beginning your round, are made to make guests feel over-the-top welcome.

The course itself eases you in the first four holes before sending you on a 3-4 minute cart ride up the mountain to the postcard 5th and 6th holes. From this point on, the terrain of the course is pretty severe. Lots of elevation change. That combined with the heat and trouncing through the loose, sandy waste areas that border both sides of most holes can make for a physically grueling day. But, you are rewarded with panoramic vistas of desert, sand, cactus and sea that will keep you reaching for your camera.

The par 5s are long, yet play yawningly downhill for the most part. The par 3s are all very different approaches. There are several short par 4s throughout that not only allow for long-hitters to take their chances, but also offer varied routes to the green for the strategic player.

The price tag wasn’t too bad for a course of this nature. Beware, however, that pro shop items are extremely expensive. My wife rode along in the cart with me ($50, and well worth it since she had access to comfort stations as well) and they made her buy a collared shirt to do so. $165!

Still, a wonderful course and spectacular experience.

Unbelievable

This is a must play course in Cabo. Incredible holes on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. Mind blowing. Can’t wait to for the second 18 to be built

Overall fun experience at Quivira. We played two days in a row during our trip. I was really excited about playing this course after seeing the pictures and reading about it in golf digest. My wife and I typically stay up the beach and play at diamante, but wanted to try something different.

Check-in: Slow and off-putting. Women working in clubhouse did not greet us. As we were attempting to check-in the first day, the lady starts talking to someone else and made us wait an additional 5 minutes. Told us hole 17 was playing as a par 3 and we would have 10% off our tee time. Catch was that we were not offered a refund as our first tee time was prepaid and we were told we had to spend the refund in the clubhouse. A sleeve of proV1's was literally $33. Give me a break.

No caddie service offered. Fairly strange for a course that has tee times at $3-400/round.

Before getting to range there is a comfort station where you can get drinks (beer, water, Gatorade, soda, mixed drinks, and some nuts). No real food. Diamante has a slider bar where you can get ahi tuna sliders and smoothies for breakfast before your round (all-inclusive). We ended up eating breakfast in the clubhouse before warming up. Food was just okay.

Range: Excellent condition. Range balls were garbage in comparison to the rest of the practice facility and were nothing good. Expected at least NXT's or something equivalent.

Course: Condition was excellent overall as expected. Greens were perfect. Rolled true and nice pace. Overall layout of the course was fun and very challenging. Beautiful views of the ocean and beaches on many holes.

Overall would play here again, but it is definitely overpriced. I think it is worth around ~$200 tops. If they were to make the experience 5 stars (friendly clubhouse staff, caddie service offerings, REAL food before tee-off, pro-V1's or TP5's at driving range, etc.) it would be worth the current cost.

Also forgot to mention they are doing A TON of construction around the course taking away from the peace and quiet of playing a round of golf.

Great Improvement

Having reviewed several previous reviews, I can say the management has listened to the feedback.Close to the first and eighteenth holes there is still some noise due to building a new hotel. It is an exceptionally imaginative course, with incredible views on many holes.
The course was in excellent condition (in contrast to previously having mentioned sand on the tee boxes), with the single exception that it is somewhat over-watered. There is not a lot of roll, but then lofted shots to pins can be more exact. I felt I'd never had so much fun getting a bit beat up on distance.
There are few areas now without concrete cart paths, and directions are plentiful. The course cannot be walked, both because of extreme elevation changes and distance between some holes. But every hole is different and it is challenging.

Full price but under renovation

This is an incredibly beautiful course, and the signature holes along ocean on the front nine are unique and really make you think, closest thing to playing golden tee you can get. That said, there was A TON of sand over almost half the tee boxes and the 18th fairway and the 17th was shortened to a par 3 (Normally a par 4) as it’s getting re-routed. I can’t believe they made me pay full price and didn’t at least mention this when I was booking. When I provided this feedback, they acted like it wasn’t a big deal which I think is crazy at the 200-300+ price range. I would’ve played somewhere else if I knew, lots of great courses in the area.

Disappointing

Quivira started a few years ago and was stunningly beautiful. Nowadays, the tee boxes the fairways and greens are in good condition, however the overall condition of the course is very poorly maintained considering the green fees they charge. The practice range is a mess. There is machinery and construction everywhere around the course. And there is garbage and debris in every arroyo. The carth paths are filthy of sand or there are no cart paths at all. You have to drive in dirt roads full of stones and it seems that you are in a muni course. The carts are in really poor conditions, no wonder with all the dirt roads they have to endure.
Of course the ocean views are awesome and picture worthy in 5 holes, but the other 5 holes with blind shots really diminish the overall design of the course. The comfort stations are very poorly supplied as compared to other courses which even cost less such as Puerto Los Cabos. Sad to say that Quivira is not worth it. If you are willing to spend over 300 on a green fee, you better go to Cabo del Sol or Puerto Los Cabos.

One of my Favorite Golf Experiences!

Played all over everywhere and this is one of my favorite golf courses/experiences if not my most favorite. Sure it has a few quirky holes but the views are absolutely unparalleled. Course is always in great condition. Layout is fantastic. Hard but not unbearable (actually shot my best round in over a year). The winds typically kick in in the afternoon and make the course a lot tougher. Be sure to check out the mens bathroom at the margarita shack before hole 5! Margaritas included after hole 4, 8, and 15. Food included after hole 8. A plus plus.

Incredibly scenic, almost justifies the cost!

The course is so scenic that it's distracting, but pay attention, because it's challenging enough to require your full commitment!
The layout is the most spread-out of any course I've ever experienced, leading to some crazy drives from greens to tees. Like many modern courses, it's absolutely un-walkable, which is a shame.
Conditions were wonderful overall, even with a few aerated greens (they discounted the substantial greens fee as compensation).
The elevation changes are dramatic, so think carefully about club selection to avoid nasty surprises. As an example, number 12 is a 565-yard par 5 from the Blue tees, yet I had 112 yards to the green for my SECOND shot! I hit the drive well and it caught the slope perfectly and ran probably 200 yards. Crazy.
The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars across the board is the cost. It's hard to give a 5-star value rating to a course whose rack rate is nearly $400. That said, if you're in the area and have the means, you absolutely MUST play here - it'll be a round you'll never forget.

Spectacular Views, Very Challenging

Playing this course was the highlight of my trip to Cabo solely due to how gorgeous the course and the views are. My handicap is in the mid to high teens. There are A LOT of blind shots and a ton of hazards throughout the course which made it an extremely difficult round of golf. Comfort stations every 4 holes helped me drown my sorrows though! If you don't mind sitting through 2 hours of hard selling timeshare presentations you can get your golf heavily discounted or completely free. IMO definitely worth 2 hours of your time instead of 300+ green fees.

Stunning!

Quirky? Maybe a little. But That easily gets overshadowed by the breathtaking views and immaculate course conditions. Even though we played in July, the course appeared to be in championship conditions and had some of the nicest turf I've ever played on. Bring your camera with you because there will be plenty of pictures you'll want to take!

We played three times while in Cabo, all at similarly priced and ranked courses. Quivira staff was just as friendly as the others, but by far the most memorable.

Your cart has GPS, there are plenty of signs everwhere, and some of the long drives have some of the best views Cabo. I have no idea how you could rank this course anything other than five stars.

Incredible views and a lot of terrific holes at Quivira

There's one stunning hole after another overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Quivira Golf Club. And the turf conditions of this all-paspalum course are pretty much perfect. Couple that with comfort stations that include all the drinks, food and service you could crave, and you've got quite an experience. But Quivira isn't without flaws. Because it's the cherry picked holes out of an eventual 36-hole layout, some of the distances between the holes are monumental, to say the least. In fact, between the fourth and fifth hole, it's exactly one mile, and it's not the only lengthy drive. You probably spend 45 minutes alone just getting between holes. And the fifth hole, an all risk driveable par 4, needs to be modified because there's simply no safe options off the tee. Still, it's a memorable experience and certainly fun. just a little quirky.

Great views but not worth it

Spectacular ocean views but too many funky holes. The worst part is dealing with the staff. Tee times are made through a central number staffed by people who know nothing about golf. Cannot speak to golf shop. Get different rates everytime you call. Still trying to get a refund for a tee time I changed in April 2015. Golf shop personnel very unfriendly and unhelpful. I have played the course 3 times & just find its not worth the hassle when there are other courses nearby which are better courses & are much easier to deal with.

The new star in Cabo

I've been lucky enough to play Quivira three times on two separate trips to Cabo since it debuted in 2014. It's not my favorite course in Cabo (that's Cabo del Sol Ocean), but it might be my favorite golf "experience". The setting is so grandiose and over-the-top gorgeous. The comfort stations, stocked with free food and drink, are amazing. The course can get a little too nasty being on such an exposed and windy site. I wouldn't be surprised if Jack Nicklaus eventually tweaks the fifth, 11th and 12th holes and a few severe greens, but there's no denying this was an impressive achievement to create such a dramatic routing along rocky cliffs on the Pacific Ocean, over towering sand dunes and through harsh desert landscapes. The shoreline par 3s at no. 6 and no. 13 are truly special. Golfers start their day near the beach on the range and end their day near the beach with a cocktail in their hand in the cool clubhouse or open-air bar. What a place.
