White Witch Golf Course at Rose Hall
About
The White Witch Course at Rose Hall is named after one of Jamaica's most famous legends, Annie Palmer who was called the "White Witch of Rose Hall." It is rumored that her spirit haunts the Rose Hall estate, including the golf course. Rather than a tropical setting, the course has a unique mountainous terrain but the vibrant foliage, tradewinds, and pleasant ocean views are still in keeping with its Caribbean location. The golf course is challenging with an intimidating layout that features dramatic elevation changes and numerous well-placed bunkers. Although it is a difficult course, its scenery makes it popular amongst all golfers.

Unplayable course conditions
Golf is about the greens. Plain and simple. The worst course conditions a golfer should have to face is recent aeration .. and generally speaking, when booking your tee time if the greens are under repair, the course generally makes people aware ahead of time.
What I experienced yesterday was one of the saddest golf experiences I’ve ever had. I came to Jamaica for one week with my family and just wanted one nice round while I was here.
When I showed up, the staff were friendly and made
Me and my dad very excited to start our round. Once we got to the first tee, our caddy explained that the greens weren’t in great shape and just to take two when hitting the green…
When we got up to the first green, without any exaduration, it was dirt. Just dirt and mud with a few grass patches. There didn’t appear to be any effort being taken either. No sign of seeding, plugging, patching, just seems like they’re letting it go and have given up hope…
The staff were nice and the caddy was very helpful getting around the course, and it’s no doubt that they would all like to see the greens in playing condition as well.
I don’t know where the problem is here but this course should seriously consider shutting down and reopening when you can play golf on the golf course again.
Feel totally ripped off having paid over 300 for the round including the mandatory caddy on a golf course that’s completely unplayable.
I wish I could add pictures to this review, but just picture a 5 star layout with 18 dirt greens and you’ll get the picture.
greens in terrible shape, fairways okay
Greens were sub par. Dried out and just plain dirt, didn't seem to have irrigation. Never seen greens that bad. Overpriced for the quality of the greens. Caddie was knowable and enjoyable. Pro shop was good.
Shape of the greens ruined our experience at White Witch. We arrived in Jamaica by cruise ship were very disappointed in our golf excursion.
wish golf now was honest upfront
the course was nicely laid out, but the greens were dried up mud and I mean putting was like putting on a table top of dried mud with animal foot tracks sticking up .....so while I shot good getting to the greens, it made is impossible to score.
I think that golf now should have known this and let me know up front prior to booking that this was how this course was....Frankly I think they should return our money
Great day of golf at White Witch.
Views were spectacular. Caddie Shawnee was very good. Greens rough for this time of year. Rest of course was in good shape.
Greens are in bad shape
Let’s start with the positive. Our caddy’ was amazing! The course was in bad shape. Also what upsets me is that when I booked this online on TeeOff app nowhere did it say there was a caddie fee or that the conditions of the greens would be like dirt. Such a shame. The course could be amazing with proper upkeep.
Disappointed
Greens are appalling, even at a discounted rate wouldn't be recommending this to anyone. The staff were excellent and very welcoming / friendly but they should leave this course to recover and it needs a good 6-12 months before it gets to acceptable
Whitchy course
A great track in the middle of nowhere. From Royal Caribbean cruise to the course and back was $120 including tip for 3. The course is hilly with great views. Definitely need to listen to the caddie especially when putting. Will play every time in Jamaica. Heard the sister course was in better shape since it stayed open during Covid and the Witch was closed. A good time there in any event.
Wow!
Pros
1st - I have to start with the caddie. She was a God send as well as funny and charismatic. Ex. Grabbed a SW as my ball was in a green side bunker (30’ from hole) as I noticed she didn’t have it in her hand. She tells me no you’re putting this. Turn 90’ to the left towards me and putt like you’re 10’ away. Ball lands 6” away from the hole. Wild.
2nd - course layout was absolutely stunning. Elevation changes more intense than playing in Maui
3rd - they offer way more beer options than your resort will which will likely just be red stripe
Cons
1st - course condition was really poor although the reason was they were closed due to COVID. Luckily they are fully renovating it next month.
2nd - club rental options are Callaway and Nike. Was hoping for newer, higher quality, and more options like PXG, Titleist, Taylor Made. (Just bring your own)
Anyway, I would 100% recommend White Witch to anyone who’d ask me where should I play in Jamaica (especially after the renovation).
Amazing layout! Great staff
Probably in the Top 5 course “layouts” I have played. Punta Espada in Punta Cana was definitely #1 with 7 holes on the ocean but the views at White Witch are phenomenal.
You are up in the mountains in the jungle and it is up down and sideways. You won’t find many flat lies here or straight putts. So many elevated tees and a few blind shots, but the caddy will definitely help with that. My Caddy Dean was great and knew the greens very well.
Surprisingly he was pretty bang on with what clubs I should be hitting just from seeing me hit a few shots.
Definitely a GO PLAY. I used GolfNow and saved a bunch of $$!! They are doing a deal where they add the caddy for free (normally $15) as the course just reopened and there is definitely some bad areas on greens. The layout will blow you away and you will forget about the condition.
I calm it an amazing sightseeing adventure with some golf shots in between. Have fun!!!
We love the White Witch!
One of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever played. The greens were a little rough but they are planing to start repairing them in April
HILLY COURSE
Nice course to play needs a lot of tender care on greens and fairways
White Witch just reopened
White Witch just reopened on 15 Dec after two years of closure. Conditions were somewhat rough but playable. Would give it some time.
Don’t make the witch mad….
The course overall was great, the greens were a mess and no one told us this until we got there. Our Caddie was excellent, her name was Nada, ask for her if you go there. If the spirit of the witch is not with you, she will let you know based on how you play 😂
Nice place but I was misled.
I enjoyed the course greatly. My caddie was helpful and very knowledgeable with target lines and yardages adjusting for slope. There were some rough spots on the greens that must have been there for a long time. Generally the conditions were good although it was very dry.
The misleading component was that my golf now booking said the caddie fees were included but when I arrived they insisted that they were not included and I must pay. Since I don’t have international calling I couldn’t rectify with customer service.
I did cancel my tee time later in the week. Worth playing once. Not twice.
Steve’s review
Ok, a few of the greens was bumpy. Other than that excellent course, fantastic views, lots of drink, and the best round so far, 82. Play it, you will love it.
The most beautiful course. The greens were a little rough because they were closed due to COVID. Eurica Wallace is the best caddy ever. We played three days and enjoyed it immensely.
White witch
The course has just opened and the greens are in poor condition. Still a magnificent layout and good pace of play. Not sure the mandatory caddie is needed.
Just reopened - Still worth the play
The course had been left to overgrow since COVID but just reopened on 12/15/22; I played it roughly 3 days since reopening and I was ultimately glad that I did. It's definitely not the BEST course in Jamaica, nor in the MoBay area in it's current state (Cinnamon Hill came more highly reviewed by the staff), but you get 3 very distinct styles on this course; elevated ocean views, great mountain backdrops, and cool winding jungle layouts; definitely not something I think you'll find ANYWHERE ELSE on the island.
The fairways and tee boxes were all pretty much in "as expected" condition for the price point. Everything was cut tight, there were some problem spots but nothing that you wouldn't see anywhere else. The biggest issue were the greens and the bunkers. Some of the greens had bare spots/dirt/sand plaguing them, but you could tell the course is paying the right attention in an attempt to bring them back to full condition. Bunkers are likely going to need to be fully redone if they want to get a a mid $100 price point; none of them were playable while I was there.
Driving range was also still closed when I played but it looked awesome. The clubhouse needs a full overhaul as it's outdated and there wasn't much in terms of food options.
Overall the review I got was that Cinnamon Hill is in far better condition and likely best for those looking to maximize a single round of golf on the island, but the views and layout are likely more incredible at White Witch.
